Chapter 255 My Wife Wants Me to Go Home
James felt his heart melt a bit, but with all these folks around, he had to play it cool, so he just gave a low "Hmm."
Rose, hanging nearby, looked super pissed. She didn't see it coming that Jessica would switch up her game and take a step back to move forward. She shot daggers at Jessica, feeling like Jessica had totally snagged James.
Before Jessica and Olivia bounced, she softly said, "I'll wait for you at home."
With that, Jessica and Olivia took off one after the other.
Rose instantly felt the heat. She had it figured out: James was into Jessica and didn't want a divorce. If Jessica had kept acting like she did before, splitting from James, it would've been cool. But now, all Jessica had to do was show a bit of softness, and she could reel James back in.
Rose watched James's face closely and said all pitiful, "James, can't you stay with me and the kid tonight? I'm scared to be alone."
James's face was stone-cold as he said, "You heard her; my wife wants me home."
When he said this, there was a hint of happiness and a sense of belonging in his voice.
He'd prefer Jessica to show care for him, to keep him close like other wives do with their husbands, rather than going back to her parents' and ignoring him.
So, in response to Rose's plea, James said, "I already promised her, and I can't go back on my word."
Rose's hand gripped the bedsheet tight, hiding the darkness in her eyes.
She then brought up the mess John caused at the dance studio yesterday, muttering, "Because of Mr. Evans, my career's tanked. No parents trust me anymore or dare to send their kids to me. What am I supposed to do now?"
This was true. The students Rose taught were all high-society daughters, who could later become her connections. She relied on these connections to gradually step into the circle she longed for. But now, it was all ruined by John. How could she not hate him?
She sobbed, "Is it such a big sin just because I have your kid? I just want to live with my child. Why won't they leave me alone?"
"Alright, I'll cover the annual profit of that dance studio," James said coldly, feeling a bit grossed out by her crying. "Didn't Jessica's dad get hurt too? Doesn't he deserve justice?"
Rose was left speechless, swallowing her anger and vowing to find a chance to get rid of John and Jessica to ease her hatred.
From the moment James promised Jessica, every second here felt like sitting on pins and needles.
He had been in a cold war with Jessica for a long time and didn't want to keep her waiting.
So, just after 8 PM, James stood up and said, "I'm out. If you need anything, call the nurse."
Rose watched his cold back as he left, her heart sinking to the bottom. She wondered, 'Why is James so cold to me now? It wasn't like this before!'
Rose could see it clearly. Now, James only felt a sense of duty toward her, with no trace of love. She clenched her fingers, the pain of her nails digging into her palms, nothing compared to the pain in her heart.
John had already called Jessica several times to ask if she would come home.
Jessica reassured John, "Dad, I'm not coming back tonight. I'll listen to you and won't go looking for them. I'm really working the night shift."
