Chapter 423 She Won't Take This Responsibility (1)
Jessica's eyes were red with anger as she shouted at him, "James, you're going too far!"
But James completely ignored her and said, "We should go see Grandpa. Remember what you promised me, in front of Grandpa, we still need to act well. Don't let him see through us."
Jessica really wanted to refuse.
However, this act wasn't just to get him to help John's company, but also to give Gerald some peace of mind in his remaining time.
So, she went with James to Gerald's hospital room.
Seeing the two of them coming in, still holding hands, Gerald looked at them with great suspicion.
"Grandpa, why are you looking at us like that?"
Jessica forced a smile and said, "You're making me feel embarrassed."
She tried to act as naturally as possible so that Gerald wouldn't see through her.
Gerald adjusted his reading glasses, snorted, and looked at James, saying, "You scoundrel, are you forcing Jessica to act with you again to deceive me?"
James pretended to be helpless and said, "If you don't believe me, you should at least believe Jessica, right? You asked me to win her back, and I did. Now that we're reconciled, you're suspicious again. What exactly do you want from us?"
Gerald was taken aback, thought for a moment, and said, "You go out first, I want to talk to Jessica alone."
James nodded, gave Jessica a warning look as he turned, and then left.
Jessica sat down by Gerald's bedside, smiling, and said, "Grandpa, aren't you happy to see us reconciled?"
Gerald snorted and said, "That boy is gone, you don't have to be afraid. Tell Grandpa, did he force you again? You don't need to act in front of me. If I were you, I wouldn't forgive him either!"
Jessica felt extremely sad, thinking of how good Gerald had been to her, she felt very guilty and heartbroken.
"Grandpa, no, he really didn't force me."
Jessica's eyes were filled with tears, but she forced a smile and choked out, "You've done so much for us, even making James think you're the bad guy, just to get us back together, right? Grandpa, I promise you, I'll be good to James. We will be good."
Gerald's eyes also turned red, he nodded and said, "You understand me, you know I'm doing this for your own good. Although James has made many mistakes, I’m not boasting; he is a responsible and accountable kid. You are the granddaughter-in-law I have chosen, and you will be happy together."
Jessica nodded vigorously, moved to tears, and unable to speak, "Thank you, Grandpa, thank you for thinking so much for me."
She silently thought to herself, that no matter what the future holds for her and James, she would never forget that there was once an old man who loved her like his own granddaughter.
Jessica chatted with Gerald for a while, and then the butler knocked on the door, saying, "Sir, Jack is here to see you."
Gerald looked displeased and said, "Let him in later."
Then he mysteriously said to Jessica, "Do you know why he's here?"
Jessica looked puzzled and shook her head.
Gerald snorted coldly and said, "They all think I'm about to die, so they come every day, teaming up with his parents to force me to make a will!"
