Chapter 564 James, Do You Want to Go Home with Me? (2)

How could she believe his words?

There had to be some kind of conspiracy!

Just then, Olivia knocked on the door and said, "Mrs. Kelly, dinner's ready."

Jessica quickly asked, "Has James come back yet?"

"Mr. Kelly said he has a business dinner tonight and you should go ahead without him."

As Olivia finished speaking, Jessica's expression dimmed.

She listlessly went to the dining table and picked at her food, her mind preoccupied with the thought that Rose had already given birth to James's child.

Maybe right now, they were enjoying their family time together.

Jessica felt more and more like a fool.

That night, after she finished her bath, James happened to come home.

He smelled of alcohol, and his eyes had a slightly tipsy look.

Jessica realized she had misunderstood him; tonight, he really had been at a business dinner.

"I'll run a bath for you. You should take a shower first," she said, not mentioning Rose, and went to the bathroom to prepare the bath as usual.

But James hugged her from behind.

His hands wrapped around her waist, and he buried his head in her neck, whispering, "Jessica, I'm sorry."

Jessica stiffened slightly and asked, "Why are you apologizing?"

"Because..."

James paused, then gave a bitter smile and said, "I've been busy these past few days and haven't spent much time with you and the baby."

Jessica felt a deep sense of disappointment.

She had hoped he would tell her the truth, at least not offer these insincere apologies while continuing to deceive her.

Jessica gently broke free from his embrace and walked straight to the bathroom.

James didn't think much of it, loosening his tie and preparing to take a bath to relax.

Just then, his phone rang.

Seeing it was Rose, he frowned instinctively.

But remembering she had just escaped death, he couldn't bring himself to ignore her call.

He walked to the balcony and answered the phone.

"James, I've made up my mind. Since you've made your choice, I'll leave with the baby. We won't bother you anymore."

Rose's voice was choked with tears, as if she were making an extremely difficult decision.

James instinctively asked, "Where are you going? You just had surgery and gave birth. You need to rest and recover."

It wasn't that he didn't want Rose to leave, but given her current condition, leaving the hospital could lead to serious consequences.

But Rose insisted, "This place holds too many painful memories. I want to go somewhere no one knows me and live quietly. James, please let me go. This call is just to say goodbye, nothing more."

James's frown deepened. "You can't leave now. Wait for me at the hospital. I need to talk to you."

As he hung up, Jessica walked over.

"The bath is ready. You should go in," she said.

James felt a pang of guilt and couldn't meet Jessica's clear eyes.

"Jessica, there's an issue at the office. I need to go."

He grabbed his coat and added, "You go to bed first. I'll be back once I'm done."

Without waiting for her response, he hurried out.

Watching his retreating figure, Jessica felt as if a hole had been punched in her heart, letting in a cold wind.

Her eyes reddened, and she stood there, unable to hold back the bitterness and anger any longer.
