Chapter 25 Saving Someone

Jessica's heart felt as if it were being tightly gripped by an invisible hand, making it almost impossible to breathe.

"No, don't do it." She shook her head in despair, tears finally breaking free.

Her hand clenched unconsciously, nails digging into her palm as if trying to feel some real pain to distract from the fear and unease inside.
She wanted to explain, to let him know her true feelings, but words seemed utterly inadequate at this moment.
He grabbed her hand, forcing her to face him. Water flowed over them like a merciless judgment, extinguishing the faint hope in her heart.
She felt the warmth of his palm, a flame of anger and despair that scorched her skin and burned her soul.
"You need to understand what your sin is!" His voice was deep and powerful as if declaring her fate.
Panic surged in her heart, and her body trembled involuntarily like a frightened bird facing an approaching predator.
"James, I really love you." She finally mustered the courage, tears streaming down her cheeks, filled with endless bitterness and regret.
"I was set up. You can check."
"Love?" He laughed coldly, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes. "Do you think saying that can cover up your betrayal?" He approached her, the heat of his breath making her feel suffocated. At that moment, her heart felt torn apart, pain and despair intertwining as if the whole world were collapsing.
"Why should I believe you, Jessica? If you want me to forgive you, you have to pay the price first!" His words were like a sharp blade, cutting through her last shred of hope.
Panic surged in her heart, realizing she had no way out and could only face the punishment he was about to impose.
"James, I'm begging you." Her voice became incredibly weak, her pleading gaze wandering over his face, trying to capture a glimmer of mercy.
"What will it take for you to believe me? I'm willing to pay any price."
"Any price?" He raised an eyebrow slightly, a playful glint in his eyes as if contemplating something.

"Fine." He slowly released her hand, turned, and opened the shower faucet. The cold water poured down as if trying to wash away her soul.
"You will reflect here until I believe you are truly repentant!" His voice echoed like a sentence, reverberating in every corner of the bathroom, making her feel there was no escape.
Despair surged in her heart, and her body involuntarily retreated.
The water soaked her clothes, making her feel a chill.
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, casting dappled shadows on the floor.

The bedroom door was gently knocked open, and the housekeeper, Blair Ember, stood at the door, a barely noticeable glint in her eyes.

She immediately noticed the disarray on the bed and the obvious bruises on Jessica's body, understanding instantly, a satisfied smile curling her lips.

She would report this to Gerald later!

Jessica was startled awake by the sudden sound, hurriedly pulling up the blanket to cover herself, a blush spreading across her cheeks.

James also woke up, gestured for Blair to close the door, and began to dress, his movements as elegant and composed as ever, as if last night's madness had nothing to do with him.
