Chapter 364 Why Not Just Be with Professor Howard (2)

Jessica totally trusted Nathan. Since he said it, she didn't give it a second thought.

She said, all emotional, "Professor Howard, I don't even know how to thank you. If it weren't for your help and speaking up for me in front of the director, I'd be in big trouble right now."

"Just focus on your internship and keep pushing forward in medicine. That would be the best thanks you could give me." Nathan said, then suddenly remembered something. "Oh, and from now on, Cynthia won't be your mentor. I'll be mentoring you personally! If she gives you any trouble, just send her my way."

Jessica blinked, totally surprised, and asked, "You're going to mentor me personally?"

Nathan smiled and shot back, "Why? You don't think I'm qualified?"

Jessica quickly explained, "No, that's not it! I just heard you have really high standards for the students you take on and usually only mentor grad and doctoral students."

Nathan found Jessica even more adorable, so pure and straightforward.

From Jessica's eyes, he couldn't see any hunger for money or power, unlike Cynthia.

Nathan said, "You are indeed the first intern I'll be mentoring. But be ready; I have very strict standards for my students. My grad and doctoral students always complain about it. Aren't you scared?"

Without a second thought, Jessica shook her head and said, "I'm not scared! As long as I can learn something, I'm not afraid of hard work. Plus, Professor Howard, getting to learn from you is a dream come true for many students."

Nathan pretended to be surprised and said, "Really? Am I that popular?"

Jessica said seriously, "Everyone says you're the youngest and most accomplished professor at Ocean City University. So, everyone wants to be your student."

"What about you?" Nathan blurted out, his deep eyes staring at her intently.

For some reason, at that moment, he seemed really eager to know and care about her thoughts.

When Jessica met his gaze, she suddenly felt startled, like something was off.

It felt like the line between them had been crossed.

She quickly looked away and said softly, "I think the same as everyone else."

Nathan immediately snapped back to reality.

His rule when he entered this field was to never have romantic relationships with his patients, let alone his students.

Thinking of this, he got serious and said, "Alright, you can go now. Just focus on your work as usual."

"Okay, thank you, Professor Howard." Jessica replied and quickly left his office.

For some reason, her heart was pounding like crazy.

Cynthia knew the matter had been settled, but now seeing Jessica around every day made her super uncomfortable. But she couldn't do anything about it.

Cynthia gritted her teeth in frustration and said to Jessica, "From now on, be careful. If you drag me down again, I won't let you off."

Jessica looked at her sarcastically and said, "Ms. Wells, I'm afraid I won't have the chance to drag you down anymore. Professor Howard said he will personally mentor me from now on."

"What did you say?" Cynthia asked in shock, "Professor Howard is going to personally mentor you?"

Cynthia thought, 'How is that possible? Nathan is so busy and not often in the department. Could it be that he will have to keep Jessica by his side from now on? In the future, with Jessica in the way, I'll have even less chance to assist in Nathan's surgeries. And this intern, what right does she have to take so many advantages?'

Thinking of this, Cynthia was almost driven mad with jealousy.
