Chapter 202 He Has Made Himself Clear
Even if he didn't love Jessica at first, he never thought about having a mistress.
He took a deep breath and said calmly, "Rose, let's get this straight. Even though I married Jessica, I never saw you as a mistress. I always thought my marriage to her was necessary. I didn't touch you because I wanted to respect you until I could give you a proper status."
Rose cried, "But you did touch me! You said you'd marry me, but you changed your mind, didn't you? You fell in love with Jessica and never planned to divorce her!"
James's expression shifted, neither confirming nor denying it.
Rose's smile turned bitter. "If I hadn't faked depression, you would've left me long ago. James, you betrayed us first!"
James sighed, his voice softer. "I'm sorry, Rose. I can only make it up to you in other ways."
Then, his gaze hardened. "But don't bother Jessica again. Otherwise, I won't consider our past."
Rose's heart sank as she stared at James, now a stranger to her. He seemed terrifying, sending a cold shiver down her spine.
After sending Rose away, James returned to the room.
Jessica was on the bed, flipping through a textbook, but clearly not absorbing anything.
James took the book from her hands and said calmly, "If you can't focus, don't bother reading it. If you have questions, ask now. Let's resolve our issues to avoid more problems down the road."
Jessica glared at him and said coldly, "I have nothing to ask. But James, I don't want to be a pawn between you two. Argue all you want, but don't drag me into it. Don't you dare use me to get back at her. I'm not a tool!"
James was silent for a moment, then sighed. "If I don't explain, you won't understand."
Jessica looked at him, waiting his explanation.
James walked to the window and said faintly, "Her depression was an act. Even the psychology professor almost believed it. I just found out yesterday. I never thought she would deceive everyone. She's not the Rose I knew, and I'm not the same James."
Jessica looked shocked. She had suspected Rose was manipulative, but now she felt a bit sorry for James. She knew what it was like to give everything, only to find out it was all a lie.
James noticed her thoughts and laughed at himself. "Do you think I'm pitiful?"
Jessica was stunned. She quickly shook her head, "No, no."
James looked at her deeply and said, "Now, do you understand? Jessica, I'm more clear-headed now than ever. I know what I'm doing. I haven't treated you as a tool or used you to get back at anyone."
Afraid she wouldn't believe him, he added, "And that pink diamond necklace Rose is wearing, it was meant for you."
