Chapter 448 I'll Scold Whoever the Third Party Is (2)
Jessica had no choice but to give up. However, the ring that once symbolized happiness now felt like a shackle.
When it was time to eat, Jessica went downstairs on time.
Because she was no longer alone; she had a baby in her belly.
She could go hungry, but the baby couldn't.
Seeing that she ate little, Olivia served her a bowl of chicken soup.
Jessica saw the yellow layer of oil on the soup and started to feel nauseous again.
She clutched her chest and ran to the trash can, dry heaving.
Olivia was startled and quickly said, "Mrs. Kelly, is it that my cooking doesn't suit your taste?"
After rinsing her mouth, Jessica said, "It's not your fault, Olivia."
Olivia suddenly thought of something and tentatively asked, "Mrs. Kelly, could it be that you're pregnant?"
Jessica's expression changed dramatically, and she said somewhat annoyed, "Don't talk nonsense. I've been divorced from him for so long; how could that be possible?"
Olivia had never seen Jessica so stern before. She awkwardly agreed, "Yes, I must be getting senile."
Jessica sighed slightly and looked at the empty seat opposite her. She asked faintly, "How long has it been since he ate?"
"Ever since Mr. Gerald Kelly passed away, Mr. James Kelly hasn't eaten much," Olivia said worriedly, glancing upstairs. "Today, after you both came back at noon, he went to the study again and has been there all day without eating or drinking."
Jessica's soft spot was touched once more. She instructed, "Olivia, make some light snacks. I'll take them up in a bit."
Soon, Olivia made some porridge and a few tasty side dishes.
Jessica carried the food to the study.
She knocked lightly on the door, and James's cold voice came from inside, "Didn't I say not to disturb me? Get out!"
Jessica had no choice but to push the door open and enter.
James was about to lose his temper but softened immediately upon seeing her.
Jessica said calmly, "Olivia said you haven't been eating well these past few days. Grandpa's affairs are almost settled, but you can't let your health deteriorate. Eat something."
As she spoke, she placed the tray on his desk and happened to see a photo album.
It recorded James's life from childhood to adulthood, along with moments with Gerald.
Jessica asked softly, "Can I take a look?"
"Yes."
James walked to the window, gazing out at the endless darkness with a distant and melancholic look.
Jessica picked up the album and flipped through it page by page.
Before the age of five, James's photos were like those of many children—innocent and lively, with his parents and grandpa, he was incredibly happy.
Later, his mother no longer appeared in the album.
Then, his father also stopped appearing.
Only Gerald remained by his side.
But his smile was gone. Despite his young age, every photo showed a stern expression, a maturity that didn't match his age.
Jessica felt extremely distressed, as if a sponge had been stuffed into her chest, making it difficult to breathe.
She put down the album and slowly walked to James's side.
Jessica spoke softly, "Grandpa wouldn't want to see you like this. The Kelly Family still has a lot of matters to handle, and so does the company. I think he would want to see an indomitable James."
"And what about you?"
James looked at her, his eyes deep and unfathomable like a bottomless pool. "You already know that I kept Rose's child. Will you leave me? Do the promises we made in front of Grandpa still count?"
