Chapter 413 Pledging Herself to James (3)
Jessica suddenly thought of the little life inside her.
The doctor had said that the first three months were very important and that sexual activity should be prohibited.
She was startled and quickly said, "I have to work the night shift tonight."
James squinted his eyes slightly, then coldly smiled and said, "Fine, I'm not in a hurry. Come back to the villa whenever you make up your mind. After all, the fate of your Evans family is entirely in your hands."
After saying that, he turned and went back to the hospital room.
Watching his indifferent back, Jessica knew that there was no going back for her and him.
She could no longer see him as her husband and give all her passion just to win his heart.
Now, she realized that James was a heartless person.
Or perhaps, his feelings were never meant for her.
That night, Jessica went to her department for her shift.
But Nathan didn't come tonight; instead, he had another doctor fill in for him.
Jessica asked curiously, "Where's Professor Howard?"
Usually, Nathan would either come early or never be late or absent.
The doctor replied, "Professor Howard said he had something come up and would be a bit late. He asked me to cover for him."
At a café near the hospital, Nathan and James sat across from each other.
Even without saying a word, the tension between the two men was palpable.
Finally, Nathan spoke first, "Mr. Kelly, I've heard a lot about you. You specifically called me out today; I doubt it's just for coffee, right?"
James smirked, "Professor Howard is a smart man, so I'll get straight to the point."
With that, he took out a bank card and handed it over, saying, "Here's $200,000. I'm repaying Jessica's debt to you."
Nathan squinted his eyes and asked, "You're repaying for Jessica?"
James nodded, "Yes, Jessica is my wife. Shouldn't I repay her debt?"
A look of surprise flashed in Nathan's eyes.
He had vaguely guessed the relationship between Jessica and James before.
Even when Cynthia had told him about their relationship, Nathan had considered it.
But he couldn't believe that Jessica and James were actually married.
However, he quickly accepted this fact and maintained his composure.
He gave a mocking smile and said, "Sorry, Mr. Kelly, but Jessica has never mentioned you to me."
James could easily detect the veiled hostility in that statement.
He chuckled and retorted, "Jessica has always been low-key. But Professor Howard, I always thought you were someone who only focused on academic research and was very aloof! I never expected you to use money, such a vulgar thing, to settle a life for my wife. Truly shocking."
Nathan's face stiffened, and he was momentarily speechless.
Indeed, it was the first time he had done such a thing in his life. Even though very few people knew about it, he had to admit it was a stain on his career.
Nathan's expression darkened, and his tone followed suit, "So, Mr. Kelly, what is your purpose in meeting me today? Just to throw a few sarcastic remarks?"
James warned him word by word, "Stay away from my wife."
Hearing him call Jessica "my wife" repeatedly made Nathan uncomfortable.
He said seriously, "Jessica is my student, and I am her teacher. Mr. Kelly, tell me, what does 'stay away' mean? If you have no trust in your wife, even if she glances at me or I glance at her, you'll overthink it, won't you?"
