Chapter 271 Lower Himself to Ask for Help
The cops had nabbed John for like three hours now. Louisa was so freaked out she couldn't eat or sleep.
The maid tried to calm her down. "Mrs. Evans, with Mr. Evans taken by the police, the Evans Family still needs you to hold it together. Get some rest and see what happens tomorrow. Maybe things will turn around?"
Louisa snapped, "This is so messed up! If it wasn't for Jessica, John wouldn't have done this! That other chick already hated Jessica, and now she's definitely not gonna let John off the hook!"
The maid sighed, "Mr. Evans has always spoiled Ms. Jessica Evans. Now that she's been wronged, he must've lost it and acted out. But no matter how mad he was, he shouldn't have done that. Running over that woman, with witnesses and evidence, how could she not press charges?"
The more Louisa thought about it, the more stressed she got. She said, looking all distressed, "I can't wait any longer. I need to call Jessica and get her back. Her dad's in jail. How can she just sleep?"
The maid stopped her. "No, Mrs. Evans. Chill out. Mr. Kelly specifically told us not to tell Ms. Jessica Evans about this. He said he'd handle it. So, let's wait for Mr. Kelly to sort it out! Besides, even if Ms. Jessica Evans knew, what could she do? She's just a student, no connections, no power, she can't help Mr. Evans."
Louisa fumed. "If he really cared about the Evans Family, if he really cared about Jessica, how could he get another woman pregnant? Isn't it obvious where his heart is? That woman is the mother of his kid, how could he help us? I'm scared John will end up spending the rest of his life in prison because of this!"
The maid tried hard to convince her. "Let's wait a bit longer. We can't act rashly! Now that Mr. Evans is in jail, we can't afford to piss off Mr. Kelly!"
Louisa finally held back her urge to call Jessica. But she was still super anxious.
For two whole days, John stayed in jail, and the Evans Family didn't dare to tell Jessica. They just waited for news from James.
Even though James had Michael trying to negotiate, even with Michael's connections, he couldn't get John out on bail.
Sean also followed James's orders and tried to dig up info several times, but those people wouldn't spill, and he found nothing.
Sean came back empty-handed and told James, "Mr. Kelly, this time Miss Morris seems to be playing hardball. If John isn't sent to jail, she probably won't back down."
James frowned and said angrily, "Because of John, Rose's legs are messed up. He deserves to be in there!"
The only reason he wanted to get him out was because he knew John was Jessica's most important family member. If Jessica found out, she'd be crushed.
He said in a serious tone, "Set up a dinner with the chief for me tonight. If he's not free tonight, then tomorrow. I'll wait until he has time!"
Sean sighed, amazed at how much Jessica meant to James. This was the first time he'd seen someone as proud as James lower himself to ask for help. And it was all for Jessica.
James rubbed his aching temples and asked, "How's the hospital? Is Rose okay now?"
"She's still crying," Sean replied honestly.
