Chapter 60 Win Her Over
He thought, 'For a woman like Jessica, who's been starved of love for so long, if I just play the part of the caring, warm guy always by her side, I'll win her over eventually!'
Just as Jack arrived at the Kelly Corporation, a sugary voice stopped him.
"Jack, you're really here? Haven't seen you in days. Guess you've been busy with work."
Pearl jogged up, smiling way too eagerly. "I thought you found a new love!"
Jack had hung out with Pearl a few times and wasn't tired of her yet. But she was too clingy, always calling, wanting to go shopping or to the salon. Did she really think he was her boyfriend?
Jack mocked her naivety in his mind but played along. "Yeah, just started at the company, and there's a ton of stuff to do. Won't be able to spend time with you for a while."
Pearl's eyes darted around; she didn't buy it. Jack was known as a playboy in their circle. But she wasn't about to lose such a high-quality catch to other women. If she could secure Jack, she'd become the second lady of the Kelly family, enjoying the same status as Jessica.
So, Pearl clung to his arm and pouted, "Jack, we've been together for two months now. Isn't it time to meet the parents? My family is very traditional and takes marriage seriously."
Jack was startled and quickly pushed her away. "Ms. Evans, are you mistaken? We're both adults, just having fun. When did I ever say anything about marriage? This is all consensual!"
Pearl's sweet facade shattered. Her sharp voice drew a crowd. "Jack, what do you mean by this?"
"Shut up, stop embarrassing me here," Jack hissed, trying to drag her outside.
But Pearl wouldn't give up, angrily asking, "Do you have another woman? Who is it this time?"
More people gathered, pointing and whispering. Jack felt embarrassed, snapped, "What are you looking at? Get back to work!"
Then he turned to Pearl and warned, "If you don't leave now, I'll call security to throw you out!"
Pearl wouldn't back down. She screamed, "You promised to invest in a movie for me. Does that not count anymore?"
Jack squinted and mocked, "Do you even know what you're worth? If I really invested in you, I'd be losing big time!"
"Jack, you're a liar! You tricked me into sleeping with you, and now you deny everything!" Pearl loudly accused, wanting everyone to see Jack's true colors.
But Jack had already called security, who forcibly removed Pearl. He spat on the ground, "What bad luck!"
This episode with Pearl didn't affect Jack's mood at all. He quickly forgot about her and started planning how to win Jessica's heart. He even got a copy of Jessica's class schedule.
In the afternoon, Jack set off on time, ready to pick Jessica up from school.
"Mr. Jack Kelly, Mr. James Kelly just instructed that the planning department's proposal must be revised by tomorrow morning. Leaving work now might not be appropriate," Sean spoke respectfully, but his words carried a hint of threat.
Jack snorted, looking displeased, "Move aside, I have important things to do!"
Sean repeated, "Mr. Jack Kelly, this proposal is crucial for the company. As the manager of the planning department, you can't lead by example in slacking off. The CEO needs to see the revised proposal first thing in the morning."
Jack smirked wickedly, "Stop using James to pressure me! If he asks, tell him I'm picking up his wife! If he doesn't care for his wife, someone else will!"
Sean looked at him in shock, unable to believe what he was hearing. What was Mr. Jack Kelly even saying?
Jack left the planning department brazenly. Sean relayed James's orders to the planning department, and the employees grumbled.
"Why? Mr. Jack Kelly has no skills, yet he has become the planning department manager! Has he done any real work these past few days?"
"Exactly! The Kelly family's business, and they don't even care, but we have to work overtime."
"If we had a competent leader, we'd accept it. But look at this guy, what a joke! Just because he is part of the Kelly family, he does nothing but exploit us!"
Sean listened to their complaints and smiled knowingly. Mr. James Kelly was right. They didn't need to do anything; Mr. Jack Kelly would ruin himself.
Thinking about Jack's earlier words, Sean felt it necessary to report to James. He hesitantly relayed Jack's words, not daring to meet James's eyes.
"He said that?" James snapped. His eyes narrowed, revealing a dangerous glint.
Sean, trembling, replied, "Yes, he did say he was picking up your wife."
