Chapter 482 Pulling Back from the Brink (4)
She didn't help him steal Adam's files, and he didn't blame her at all.
If he really had another woman, then why would he be with her?
Lily felt extremely upset, with so many questions weighing on her heart that she could hardly breathe.
Jacob quickly noticed her unusual behavior.
He tentatively asked, "What's wrong, Lily? Do you have something on your mind? If it's about this project, don't worry about it. I'll figure it out myself. Please don't let it affect your mood because of me."
Lily couldn't believe that such an understanding Jacob would betray her.
So, she decided not to beat around the bush and spoke directly.
Lily left his embrace, sat up straight, and looked at him, saying, "Jessica said she saw you with a woman that day, and you two seemed very close. Is that true?"
Jacob had already anticipated that Jessica would tell Lily.
He calmly said, "Yesterday, when we were having dinner, Jessica specifically asked me when you went to the restroom, and I told her everything. What? She didn't tell you? That girl is my client. My secretary accidentally spilled tea on her clothes, so I had no choice but to accompany her to buy a new set. It's just common courtesy. You wouldn't be as unreasonable as Jessica, would you?"
Lily suddenly understood and breathed a sigh of relief, saying, "I knew it, you couldn't possibly have another woman outside. But Jessica was just looking out for me, so she was more anxious than I was."
Jacob, however, looked angry at this moment and said, "Lily, in the business world, these social interactions and entertainments are inevitable. I didn't expect that you wouldn't even have this bit of trust in me. Does whatever Jessica says become the truth?"
Lily couldn't help but feel guilty and said, aggrieved, "It's my fault. I apologize."
Jacob asked, "Do you know where you went wrong?"
Lily looked at him blankly.
Jacob patiently and gently said, "Your mistake was not communicating with me immediately when you had questions, but instead choosing to believe others and misunderstanding me. Your mistake was torturing yourself all night with someone else's mistake."
She was so moved that her eyes turned red, and she solemnly promised, "Jacob, I won't do this again in the future. I promise!"
Jacob hugged her, but his eyes were cold, without a trace of warmth.
What a close call!
He still had to coax her and then find a way to get the stuff from Adam's computer!
Suppressing his inner annoyance, Jacob said gently, "I still have to go back to the company later. After all, I still want to fight for Uncle Adam's project, so I need to work overtime. Let me take you home first, okay?"
"I'm sorry, Jacob."
Lily looked at him with concern and said, "How about I talk to my dad again and plead with him to cooperate with The Diaz family? I can talk to him openly instead of resorting to stealing."
Jacob stroked her cheek and said, "No need, I don't want to make things difficult for you. This is a matter between men, and you don't need to talk to Uncle Adam. Otherwise, he might think I'm using his daughter, and things will only get more complicated. If there are any misunderstandings between our families, how can we get married?"
