Chapter 272 Let Her Keep Waiting

James's eyes got all stormy as he asked again, "What about the kid? Did the doc say it could be saved?"

Sean hesitated, feeling the tension from James. He thought, 'Does he really want the kid saved, or is there more to this?'

"The doc said Miss Morris's baby is tough," Sean finally said. "For now, everything's stable."

"Alright, got it," James replied, his face giving nothing away as he waved Sean off.

Just then, Michael walked up, looking serious.

"Any news?" James asked quickly, his anxiety showing.

Michael said gravely, "John's driver claims John ordered the whole thing. He even says John was in the car. Given John's motive, it's a tough case. Unless Rose writes a letter of forgiveness and drops the lawsuit, we're in for a long fight."

James sighed, "You know I can't bring myself to ask. Even if I did, she might not agree."

Michael smirked and teased, "Yeah, you actually can'y.. After all, it was your father-in-law who crippled her legs. Asking her to let him off is a bit much."

Just then, his phone rang. It was his assistant calling. "Mr. Watson, did you forget about the exclusive interview with Miss Stewart today? She's been waiting at the firm for half an hour. She asked me to check if the interview is still on," the assistant said.

Michael's lips curled into a wicked smile. "Let her keep waiting," he said, but quickly wrapped up his conversation with James and headed back to the firm.

At Prestige Law Firm, Lily's patience was running thin. Her chair was uncomfortable, and her backside was starting to ache.

Last time, the whole Jessica's divorce thing ended without a conclusion, so Lily naturally wouldn't keep her promise to him and wouldn't come running. Instead, she had been dodging him, refusing even to meet once. She knew she was no match for him; he's too clever and cunning.

Despite knowing her limitations, Lily understood better than most that Michael was not someone to mess with lightly. Yet, here she was, waiting for an exclusive interview that several more seasoned reporters had been denied. Michael had made a point of turning them away, claiming to be too busy, which added a layer of tension and gossip at the magazine.

Frustrated, Lily muttered to herself, "Bastard, he's doing this on purpose." Her eyes roamed around his starkly decorated office, all black and white minimalism—oppressive yet stylish.

The huge desk faced the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Ocean City, a view as commanding and distracting as Michael himself.

Taking a moment, Lily walked to the desk and gazed out at the stunning cityscape. But as her eyes fell on the stack of documents there, one name stood out: John.

She wondered, 'Could it be Jessica's father?'
