Chapter 54 The Warmth He Gave

James said she was filthy!

But none of this was her fault, nor was it her choice.

Jessica's eyes filled with tears, but she held them back.

She forced a smile and pretended to be calm, saying, "I know, yesterday you just wanted to humiliate me. You wouldn't really touch me."

After saying that, she fled the study like she was escaping, not daring to let him see her vulnerability and hurt.

For dinner, Jessica neither cooked nor ate.

She had menstrual cramps, especially during the first two days of her period.

After the argument with James, her stomach hurt even more, and she couldn't eat anything.

When James came in that night, he saw Jessica curled up into a ball.

James walked over and lifted the blanket, "Jessica? What's wrong with you?"

Jessica glanced at him and asked, "Why haven't you left yet?"

She thought he would go to find Rose.

James frowned and said, "This is my house. Where would I go?"

"Suit yourself." Jessica muttered and turned her face away, but the cold sweat on her forehead betrayed her.

A trace of concern flashed in James's eyes, and he pressed, "Tell me, what's wrong?"

Jessica was still angry. She gritted her teeth and said, "I'm fine. You don't need to worry about me."

"Come on, we're going to the hospital."

James said seriously. He didn't know what was wrong with her, so he could only think of going to the hospital.

Jessica then shyly murmured, "I have stomach pains every month. It'll be fine after a couple of days."

James was stunned for a moment before he realized.

He awkwardly cleared his throat and left her room.

Jessica thought this time, he had left for good.

But half an hour later, he came in with a bowl of ginger tea.

James looked a bit unnatural and said flatly, "I found this online. I'm not sure if it works, but you can try it."

Jessica couldn't believe that James had actually gone to make ginger tea for her.

He helped her sit up and lean against him.

Looking at the steaming bowl of tea, her eyes inexplicably reddened.

She wasn't so sentimental before.

However, since her mother passed away, James was the first person to make something like this for her.

Seeing her hesitate to drink, James thought she doubted its effectiveness.

So he advised, "The internet says this works, and it won't kill you. What if it actually helps?"

Jessica looked at him speechlessly, took the bowl, blew on it, and drank it all in one go.

The taste was spicy and sweet, and the warmth seemed to flow into her heart.

She lowered her eyes and said softly, "James, if you despise me, then don't be nice to me. I don't like you blowing hot and cold about me; it makes it harder for me to let go."

James chuckled and said, "Is this being nice to you? You're easily satisfied."

Jessica felt a pang in her heart. She still remembered James saying he found her 'dirty.'

"I want to sleep now."

With that, Jessica cut off all her fantasies about him, covered herself with the blanket, and pretended to be sleepy.

Later, James tucked her in and said, "I know you're not asleep. Don't take what I said this afternoon to heart. Stay away from other men, at least until the divorce."

After saying that, he closed the door to let her rest.

James returned to the study, stood by the window, and seemed to be deep in thought.

He picked up the phone and called his assistant, "Sean, help me look into this guy, Nathan. Also, check if Jessica had any contact with him before. Find out which male classmates of hers had more contact with her."

He had to know who the man was that Jessica had been hiding for so long and wouldn't reveal.

Jessica rested for a night, and her stomach pain really eased a lot.

She wondered if it was because of that bowl of ginger tea.

At that moment, there was a crisp knock on the door.

Then, James's voice came through, "Come out for breakfast."

Jessica was stunned.

It wasn't Olivia, but James asking her to come down for breakfast.
