Chapter 55 Cooking for Her
Suddenly, she remembered Olivia had taken three days off and wouldn't be back!
So, did James make breakfast?
When Jessica went downstairs, she was shocked to find James cooking. And he wasn't just cooking; he was making a gourmet meal with an enticing presentation.
"Did you make all this?" she asked, incredulous.
James, sitting across from her, snapped, "Who else? You?"
The last time she tried to cook, she nearly poisoned him! No way was he letting her near the kitchen again.
Jessica was left speechless by his retort and silently picked up the sandwich in front of her. Taking a bite, the aroma of roasted meat filled her mouth.
"I've never seen you cook before. How did you learn?" she asked, excited.
With a faint smile, James explained, "When I was studying abroad, I cooked for myself. Haven't done it since I got back."
Jessica had a sudden thought and asked, "Did you ever cook for Rose?"
Her clear eyes stared at him intently, as if the answer was crucial.
James was slightly taken aback and casually denied, "No."
Jessica had assumed that after being with Rose for so long, they would have done these ordinary yet incredibly warm things for each other, like a married couple. Thinking she was the first woman to taste James's cooking, Jessica felt a flutter in her heart.
Watching James chew slowly in front of her, she always felt that everything about him exuded an innate elegance.
Noticing her gaze, James suddenly looked at her, teasing, "Am I that good-looking?"
"Of course you are," Jessica nodded absentmindedly. She pondered, 'But you didn't belong to me.'
Just then, the phone rang. It was Gerald, inviting them to dinner at the old house that evening.
In the evening, they arrived at the Kelly family's old house. Gerald had been suffering from high blood pressure and headaches recently, losing a lot of weight. Even Linda often brought Jack to visit, constantly trying to make her presence felt in front of Gerald. They were also afraid that Gerald might be on the verge of death and, in a moment of confusion, leave everything to James.
Jessica looked at the bedridden Gerald with pity, thinking to herself, 'Luckily, Mr. Kelly doesn't know about my troubles. Otherwise, he wouldn't even be able to rest and recover.'
James asked worriedly, "Grandpa, how about we go to the hospital for a thorough check-up?"
Gerald scoffed, "No need! I hate hospitals. Besides, at my age, even if there's nothing wrong, the hospital will find something."
James, a bit anxious, persuaded, "But you can't ignore your illness."
At this moment, Linda interjected, "James, don't push your grandpa. He's very strong. As long as you and Jack work hard together, you can share a lot of his burdens."
James's eyes were sharp, with a hint of confusion. What did Linda mean by that?
Before he could think it through, Gerald said, "Starting tomorrow, Jack will join the company as the planning department manager, which matches his major in college. You should guide him."
Jack was extremely pleased but, following his mother's instructions, said humbly, "James, I'll rely on your guidance from now on!"
James's face turned extremely grim, and even Jessica could feel the cold, murderous aura emanating from him.
He directly said, "Jessica, wait for me in the living room. And the rest of you leave. I need to talk to Grandpa alone."
