Chapter 56 Make Him Deal with the Woman Outside
Linda's face twisted in anger. She was James's stepmom, but he talked to her like she was the help.
Jack, itching to get to his date, pulled his mom aside. "Mom, let's just wait outside since James said so."
Linda, grumbling, let herself be dragged out. "You idiot! Now that James kicked us out, who knows what he's telling Grandpa? He might ruin your shot at the company."
Jack shot back, "Seriously? Grandpa promised us. He's not gonna back out now, especially since HR department already announced my position."
Linda relaxed a bit, thinking Jack had a point. Gerald might not like them, but business was business. Once a position was announced, it was pretty much set in stone.
Inside, James faced Gerald. "Grandpa, I can't believe you'd go back on your word. You know I can't stand Linda and her son."
Gerald snorted. "Who broke the promise first? When you married Jessica, you swore you'd cut ties with that Rose Morris!"
James was taken aback. Did Jessica tell Gerald about Rose? Who else could have?
Gerald continued, "If Linda hadn't told me about the scandal online, I wouldn't have known how much Jessica suffered! The butler's already confirmed it was all Rose's doing. Not letting you marry her was the best decision I ever made!"
James tried to explain, "Grandpa, you're wrong. Rose isn't like the rest of the Morris family. Sure, they're low-class, but Rose is different. She became independent early on. Can't you see past her background?"
But Gerald just got angrier. "The Morris family are all trash. How good could she be? With her background, she dares to dream of marrying into the Kelly family? Shameless!"
James sighed. "You don't need to worry. Rose won't affect Jessica's status; she's still Mrs. Kelly. Rose is sensible and won't bully Jessica."
Gerald's eyes narrowed. "So, she is back. You told me you didn't want a public wedding with Jessica to avoid hurting Rose. I agreed. Were you just playing me? Have you been in touch with her this whole time?"
James stayed silent, not denying it. For the past two years, he'd kept in touch with Rose, visiting her whenever he went abroad.
Gerald's face turned red with anger. "You took advantage of my trust, hurting Jessica while fooling around with that woman. Do you really think you're untouchable?"
