Chapter 192 Nothing More Than Ordinary

"Open the door!" James's voice was sharp and urgent.

Joan quickly signaled the maid to comply, trying to explain herself. "I told her to go back for a long time, but she wouldn't listen and just stood in the rain."

Her excuses came fast, but James's glare shut her up.

He carried Jessica into the Evans house, dropping the umbrella and heading straight to her room.

In the bedroom, Jessica wanted to see John, but James stopped her. "Take a hot bath first, okay?" His tone was gentle, but he was firm.

He pulled her to the bathroom and started the bathwater.

Jessica resisted, so James warned, "If you keep this up, I'll bathe you myself."

That did the trick. Jessica muttered, "Then you go out, I'll bathe myself."

James reassured her, "Okay, take your time. Don't worry, I've got everything under control."

Jessica stared at him, still trusting him in the depths of her subconscious despite everything.

After her bath, Jessica came out in clean clothes. James took her hand and led her downstairs.

John was waiting in the living room, not happy to see James but aware of the Kelly family's power.

Seeing Jessica, guilt flickered in John's eyes. He was torn between his mother and his daughter.

Jessica, with teary eyes, approached John. "Dad, I won't blame Grandma anymore. Just don't abandon me. If you do, I'll be an orphan."

James felt a deep sadness. He had never seen Jessica so subservient.

Joan, worried John might be swayed, quickly interjected, "What about Pearl? Jessica caused her miscarriage and humiliated her at the ball. Are we just going to ignore Pearl's suffering?"

John hesitated. Pearl was also his daughter, and her miscarriage was a heavy blow.

Jessica watched John anxiously, not wanting to be abandoned. He was the only family she had left.

James's phone rang, and he glanced at the screen, his expression darkening. He pulled Jessica close and stared at John. "Mr. Evans, are you really going to cut ties with Jessica?"

John sighed, clearly disappointed. "It's not that I abandon her, but Jessica has hurt everyone in the family."

James turned to Jessica, his voice dripping with disdain. "Is this the father you trust? Nothing more than ordinary."

Jessica wanted to defend John, to tell James to stop.
