Chapter 598 He Finally Met Susan (2)
Colt, acting all grown-up, crossed his arms and looked thoughtfully at Nathan.
Nathan ruffled Colt's hair and said, "Hey buddy, why don't you go play with Cordelia? I'll whip up some empanadas for you guys soon. And remember, let your mom rest, okay? Don't bug her."
Colt blinked a few times and then suddenly asked, "Uncle Nathan, do you wanna be our dad?"
Nathan was caught off guard, not sure how to answer Colt's question.
He then smiled gently, crouched down, and asked seriously, "Well, Colt, do you like me? Would you want me to be your and Cordelia's dad?"
Colt's eyes darted around before he quietly said, "But I still want my own dad."
That short sentence hit Nathan like a bucket of cold water, chilling him to the core.
Just then, Cordelia chimed in, "Colt, our dad is gone. Mommy said he's in another world now."
She then giggled and added sweetly, "I think Uncle Nathan is like a dad to us. He's so good to us!"
Nathan felt a bit of comfort from Cordelia's words. At least she understood him.
Colt suddenly got a bit angry and frowned at Cordelia, "You're just a foodie. Whoever gives you food, you want them to be your dad."
Cordelia, upset, retorted, "That's not true! Uncle Nathan is really nice to us, he's handsome, and he cares about Mommy. Why can't he be our dad?"
By the end, Cordelia's eyes were red with frustration, and she huffed, "I'm not talking to you anymore!"
Nathan had to pick Cordelia up and patiently soothe her, "Alright, Cordelia, don't cry. Colt was just joking with you."
Colt seemed to realize his words had been hurtful and quietly said to Nathan, "Uncle Nathan, I'm sorry. I do like you."
Nathan smiled helplessly and said, "I know you do."
Despite that, Colt still wanted his dad.
Later, when Nathan finished making the empanadas, he had Colt and Cordelia call Jessica to come eat.
The empanadas were delicious, and Jessica, Colt, and Cordelia ate quite a lot.
Jessica had no idea about the earlier conflict.
She wasn't used to Nathan looking at her with such gentle and affectionate eyes, so she changed the subject, saying indignantly, "By the way, I met a real piece of work at the hospital recently. Seriously, she almost drove me crazy."
Nathan's interest was piqued, and he smiled, "Oh? What kind of piece of work? What happened?"
Jessica then recounted the story of Rose bringing Isaac to the hospital. She wrinkled her nose and said, "You wouldn't believe it. She's such a parvenu. I can't even remember her husband's last name, but they must be loaded. But honestly, besides money, they have nothing. Cutting in line was bad enough, but she actually put her credit card on my desk. Can you believe that?"
Nathan, intrigued, asked, "So what did you do?"
"Me?" Jessica chuckled, "If I wasn't wearing my white coat, I would've thrown that card right back in her face. But I thought, since she's so rich and loves flaunting her money, why not have her cover the medical bills for our pediatric heart patients?"
Nathan finally burst out laughing, "Only you could come up with something like that."
