Chapter 61 The Awards Ceremony
James was fuming, feeling like his manhood had been trampled on.
He asked icily, "How long has Jack been gone?"
"Just left," Sean replied, but James had already grabbed his coat and stormed out of the office.
At the entrance of Ocean City University, Jack's red Ferrari stood out like a sore thumb.
He didn't notice the car tailing him.
Pearl glared at his car, her eyes burning with jealousy and rage.
She had to see who had stolen Jack's heart.
A college student? Seriously?
But then she saw the woman walking toward Jack's car—it was Jessica.
Jack even opened the car door for her, fussing over her like she was royalty.
Pearl's eyes widened in shock.
Could Jack and Jessica be a thing?
She was livid.
She'd been competing with Jessica since they were kids, but she never thought Jessica would go after her man too!
But she was smarter now. Confronting Jack would only push him away.
She needed a new plan to win him back.
Meanwhile, James was parked nearby in a low-key silver Bentley.
He watched Jessica get into Jack's car, gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles turned white.
'When did Jessica start messing around with Jack? No wonder Linda always gets my info so fast! Is Jessica the one feeding Jack information?' he thought, his face darkening.
He pulled out his phone and called Jessica.
"Where are you?" he asked, his voice low and angry.
Jessica glanced at Jack and replied calmly, "On my way home."
"Are you alone?" James pressed.
Jessica found James's sudden interest in her whereabouts odd. He usually didn't care this much.
Why all the questions? What was his deal?
"Who I'm with is none of your business," she snapped.
James's heart sank.
So, she was dodging his questions and acting all high and mighty about it.
Her true colors were finally showing.
Just then, he received a call from the Ocean City University.
"Mr. Kelly, thank you for donating another lab building to our school. The day after tomorrow is the award ceremony for our student Jessica's act of bravery. Can you attend as a guest presenter?"
James's lips curled into a cold smile. "Yes."
The day of the award ceremony arrived.
Jessica put on light makeup and tied her curly hair into a low bun.
Jack was waiting downstairs to take her to school.
Seeing Jessica in a white dress, her skin glowing, she looked like an ethereal being descending the stairs. Jack couldn't take his eyes off her.
Usually, he saw her in jeans and casual shirts, looking like an artsy youth.
Today, her outfit was a perfect blend of sweet and sophisticated, making it impossible for Jack to look away.
"Jessica, you look stunning today," he said sincerely.
Jessica felt awkward under his gaze. "Mr. Kelly, it's not raining today. I can get to school on my own."
