Chapter 247 High Surgical Risk (3)
Today's events left Jessica feeling crushed. James' accusations cut deep.
Trying to stay calm, she asked, "So, you're letting Rose have the baby?"
James paused, then said flatly, "I have no choice."
Jessica's heart sank, tears welling up. "Then I wish you both happiness. Can you let me go?"
James gripped the steering wheel tightly. "I told you, no divorce," he said firmly. "Once Rose has the baby, I'll send them abroad. Our life won't change."
Jessica stared at him, hurt and disbelief in her voice. "Are you insane? You expect me to accept a mistress and an illegitimate child? No way. I won't share my husband."
Her hands trembling, she opened the car door and stepped out into the cold night, not looking back.
James watched her leave, his mind in turmoil. He felt helpless and called Sean, asking him to secretly assign someone to follow Jessica for her protection and prevent her from disappearing.
Jessica didn't return to James' villa but went to the Evans family home.
With Pearl and Joan gone, only Louisa and John were left. She felt a bit relieved.
John was thrilled to see her and had the servants prepare more food.
During dinner, John asked, "Jessica, didn't James come with you?"
Jessica's face tightened. "He has a social event tonight."
She then asked, "Dad, can I stay here for a few days?"
"Of course," John said. "This is your home."
Louisa sensed something and quietly asked, "Did you and James fight? Why else would you come back?"
John shot Louisa a look to drop it.
After dinner, he went to Jessica's room. "Tell me the truth, did James hurt you?"
"No," Jessica forced a smile. "We're fine."
John didn't buy it. "You're my daughter. I can tell when something's wrong. Last time, I saw James with another woman at the hospital. Did you ask him?"
"Dad," Jessica pleaded, "please stop asking. I'm confused and don't want to talk about it."
John got angry. "So, Pearl was right? James has another woman?"
Jessica couldn't deny it.
John was furious. "Did James kick you out? Did they team up against you? Just tell me, and I'll fight for you."
"Dad, he didn't kick me out. I just don't want to be there anymore," Jessica said, grateful. "Maybe you were right. I shouldn't have married James. You predicted I wouldn't be happy."
