Chapter 345 Wrongly Accused (3)

Nathan saw Cynthia zoning out and snapped, "Come on, spill it! Who was on duty that night? Which intern saw the patient? How could you let an intern handle something like that?"

Cynthia, shaking, looked down and mumbled, "I was on duty. Jessica saw the patient."

Nathan's eyes widened. "You let Jessica see the patient? What about you? Did you even check on him yourself?"

Cynthia's mind was racing, trying to figure out how to get out of this mess.

The family members couldn't hold back any longer and started yelling. "Great, you let an intern treat our family member while you were slacking off! Did anyone record what she just said? We're taking this to court; this is evidence!"

"No, you've got it all wrong!" Cynthia denied it fiercely and suddenly rushed into the office, dragging Jessica out.

"It was her!" Cynthia's eyes were sharp and she said angrily, "This student always tries to show off during her shifts. She insisted on handling everything on her own. That night, the patient had chest pain, and I had no idea because she didn't notify me!"

Jessica looked at her in shock, her eyes wide open. She said incredulously, "Ms. Wells, did I insist on handling the patient on my own? You clearly told me to handle it myself and to call you if I couldn't manage. Besides, that night, I did feel something was wrong with the patient. I called you three times, and you said you would come to see him yourself!"

Cynthia said sternly, "At this point, you still won't admit it and dare to lie! Jessica, I've been a doctor for ten years. This isn't my first day on duty. How could I make such a mistake? If you had told me that night, I would have definitely gone to see the patient. You are truly despicable!"

The family members, thinking they had found the real culprit, suddenly pulled Jessica over. "So it was you? You heartless doctor! How dare you treat my father's life with such disregard You're the one who killed him!"

Surrounded by the shouting and being pushed around, Jessica was terrified.

Seeing that the family members believed her and shifted their focus to Jessica, Cynthia finally breathed a sigh of relief.

At this moment, Nathan stepped forward, forcefully pushing the family members away and shielding Jessica behind him. Standing in the center of the crowd, he appeared even more tall and imposing.

Nathan said word by word, "If it turns out that our doctor is at fault, I will not cover it up. But until the matter is fully investigated, no one can touch our doctor. You have the right to pursue this, and I also have the right to pursue you. I hope you don't turn from victims into perpetrators! If you continue to cause trouble, I will have to call security."

Because Nathan's tone was stern and he was the head of cardiology, the family members were somewhat intimidated.

They temporarily stopped arguing and said, "Mr. Howard, we trust you to give us justice. But we will only give you two days. Without a proper explanation, we will take your hospital to court! And we will also take this intern to court!"

"Rest assured," Nathan said solemnly.

After the family members and onlookers had dispersed, Nathan took Jessica to his office.

Jessica had never encountered such a situation before. Even when she was falsely accused by Rose, she didn't feel as scared as she did now.

Seeing her in a daze and unresponsive, Nathan asked gently, "What's wrong? Are you scared stiff?"
