Chapter 92 What Happened?
Joan sighed, "We gotta take it one step at a time. Luckily, your grandma's on our side. As long as Jessica keeps quiet, your dad won't find out about today."
Pearl, worried, said, "But Jessica hates us. How could she just let us off the hook? She'll definitely tell Dad, hoping he'll kick us out!"
Joan and Pearl paced around, anxious.
Soon, the ambulance arrived and took Louisa and Kevin to the hospital.
Joan and Pearl paid the fees, cursing under their breath. Suddenly, Pearl felt nauseous and leaned against the wall, dry heaving.
Joan asked, "Pearl, what's wrong? Did you eat something bad?"
Pearl replied, "It's nothing. I've just been feeling nauseous and wanting to throw up lately."
They were too stressed to think much of it.
Two days later, John came back from a business trip, and Louisa was discharged from the hospital.
Kevin, however, had to stay in the hospital. Only when his company went bankrupt did he realize he crossed the wrong people.
When Joan introduced Jessica to him, she never mentioned Jessica's husband was James.
Now, with his legs broken and his company gone, Kevin blamed Joan and Louisa. He demanded $700,000 from them to settle things. Otherwise, he'd go to John for the money.
Louisa and Joan decided they couldn't let John know about their plan to marry Jessica off to Kevin. So, when John came home, Louisa, prompted by Joan, started to complain.
Louisa cried, "John, you're finally back. If you hadn't come back, Jessica and James would have ruined me!"
John asked, "Mom, what happened? Tell me slowly."
Louisa lied, "Yesterday, Joan invited her cousin over, and Jessica came home too. They had some disagreements, and Jessica called James over. Now, James has broken Joan's cousin's legs and ruined his company. Isn't this too much?"
Louisa cried, not mentioning the matchmaking plan for Jessica and blaming Jessica instead.
Joan added, "John, I know you've always looked down on Pearl and me. But you've spoiled Jessica too much; this house isn't just hers. Do I not even have the freedom to invite Kevin over for dinner?"
John frowned, he couldn't even remember her cousin's full name. He asked in confusion, "Is he the one who wanted to start a company a couple of years ago and asked me to invest?"
Joan said meaningfully, "Yes, that's Kevin. You didn't invest a penny, but he worked hard and started an advertising company, only for Jessica to ruin it. You can't just ignore this!"
