Chapter 309 Even If I Die by Your Hand, I Would Be Willing (1)
Pearl saw her chance and jumped on it.
"Hey, Mr. Kelly, your hand's all messed up. Let me help you out!" she said, starting to feed him porridge and snacks.
Pearl noticed that even though James was a jerk to her in private, he showed her some respect in front of Jessica.
She thought, 'Why not make the most of this situation? One day, I'll have Jessica pack her bags and leave for good!'
Jessica acted like she didn't see a thing and quietly ate her breakfast.
James caught her reaction and felt a pang of disappointment. He shoved Pearl away, saying, "I'm done. Heading to the office."
As soon as he stood up, Jessica quickly followed him.
They got to the garage, and James spun around, barking, "Stop following me!"
"Let me see your wound," Jessica said, eyeing the messy bandages on his hand with growing worry. She reached out to grab his left arm.
James yanked his arm back, snapping, "What are you up to now? Checking if I'll bleed out? If I die, you'll be free, right?"
"James!" Jessica shouted, her eyes blazing with anger. Her voice trembled as she said, "I'm not as awful as you think! Sure, I deserve this for worrying about you and losing sleep over it all night!"
The air went still as soon as she finished speaking.
James was taken aback.
Did she just say she was worried about him?
Didn't she say she didn't love him anymore?
If that was true, why worry?
Lost in thought, James didn't argue and let her check his wound.
"Oh, it's really deep," Jessica said nervously. "Come with me to the hospital. I'll bandage it for you. Otherwise, it might get infected."
James studied her face and seemed to get it.
He grabbed her chin, staring deep into her eyes, and asked, "If you don't love me anymore, why are you so worried? It's just a small cut. Is it worth it?"
Then, he smirked and looked at her teary eyes, saying, "Why are you almost crying?"
Jessica quickly turned her face away, looking anywhere but at him, and said, "I just feel guilty. After all, you got hurt because of me."
James didn't get the answer he wanted and immediately put on a stern face, saying, "If that's the case, don't pretend to care. I know my own injury. Don't worry."
With that, he was about to get in the car.
In a panic, Jessica grabbed him and softened her voice, saying, "Okay, I admit it, I'm worried about you. Is that Okay?"
James looked at her for a long time, then chuckled and asked, "Really?"
"Yes," Jessica said helplessly.
Finally getting the answer he wanted, James obediently went to the hospital with her.
Jessica took him to the cardiology dressing room, put on a white coat, mask, and hat, and started to change his dressing.
James watched Jessica, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Jessica looked good in anything. Even in a uniform, she had a unique charm.
Seeing him staring, Jessica asked, "You don't mind me changing your dressing, do you? If you think my skills aren't good enough, I can take you to the emergency department."
"Why would I mind?" James said.
