Chapter 219 The Purest Girl in the World
She couldn't shake this stain from her life or their marriage.
"Sorry," Jessica mumbled, looking down.
James pulled over, his face serious. He turned to her, gently pulled her into his arms, and whispered, "What are you talking about? It's my fault for not protecting you. But we have to move forward, right?"
Jessica felt a lump in her throat, tears welling up. "I'm afraid you'll despise me," she said, her voice trembling.
James smiled softly, stroking her cheek. "Jessica, you're the purest girl in the world."
As the month ended and autumn set in, James became more attentive, picking her up and dropping her off at school almost every day.
Her classmates noticed and asked about him, and he no longer said he was her brother.
In the car, James wrapped a thin scarf around her neck, concerned. "It's getting colder. Don't catch a chill."
Jessica smiled. "Okay. I've never seen you wear a scarf."
James smirked. "I'm not afraid of the cold. As long as you're warm, that's all that matters."
James was too busy with work to bother with scarves, but Jessica had a new idea.
Before getting out of the car, she kissed him lightly. "I'll go home by myself tonight. I want to go shopping with Kylie."
James raised an eyebrow. "Hmm? Don't you usually go with Lily?"
Jessica laughed nervously. "Oh, don't worry about it."
She hurried out, hoping he wouldn't catch on. She knew Lily would think knitting a scarf was silly, but Kylie, who always knitted her own, would be the perfect guide.
James watched her leave, smiling helplessly.
In the study room, Jessica found Kylie. "Where do you buy yarn for knitting scarves? Can you teach me?"
Kylie looked up, surprised. "Why do you want to knit a scarf?"
Gesturing to the branded scarf around Jessica's neck, Kylie added, "You can afford expensive scarves. Why knit one?"
Jessica smiled awkwardly. "I want to knit one for my husband. But I don't know how. Can you teach me and come with me tonight to buy yarn?"
Kylie shifted from curious to bemused. "Crazy! Do you realize we start our internships next week? We'll be swamped. Can you prioritize accordingly?"
"I know," Jessica pleaded. "Please, just one scarf!"
With a sigh, Kylie relented. "Fine, I can't say no to you. I never knew you were such a lovesick puppy!"
Jessica felt relieved and grateful. She knew it was impractical, but love often defies logic. She had spent so long pretending not to care because she thought their relationship was doomed. But the moment he gave her hope, her heart raced toward it, like a moth to a flame, ignoring the potential for pain.
