Chapter 320 Resolving the Misunderstanding (4)
James had been hanging out in the master bedroom for what felt like forever, but Jessica still hadn't shown up.
Annoyed, he stomped downstairs and spotted Olivia tidying up the living room.
With a scowl, James asked, "Where's Jessica? Didn't I tell her to stay out of the storage room?"
Olivia, looking a bit uncomfortable, replied, "Mrs. Kelly doesn't want to come back. After all, you did bring that lady home before, and she..."
James clenched his fists, his face hardening.
Jessica, what an ungrateful woman!
He'd given her so many chances, but she never took them.
Maybe she was really done with him, had no expectations left.
That's why she didn't care anymore.
He felt like an idiot. He'd seen her mean streak firsthand. Why did he keep giving her opportunities to hurt him?
Frustrated, James grabbed his coat and stormed out.
He headed straight to Michael's place, his mood dark.
Michael, surprised, asked, "What are you doing here? It's the middle of the night. Thank God, I don't have a lady over, or this would be super awkward!"
James plopped down on the sofa and blurted out, "I've made up my mind on the way here. Jessica and I are just not right for each other. Our marriage was a mistake. Help me draft a divorce agreement!"
Michael, taken aback, asked, "Didn't I draft one before? And you said she even signed it."
James, looking a bit sheepish, said, "Yeah, but I tore it up later. Just draft another one like the last, and make sure she gets more in terms of property."
Michael was quiet for a moment before asking, "Can you tell me what exactly happened between you two? Everything seemed fine before. How did it come to this?"
Could it be because he had told Jessica the truth, causing a rift between her and James?
The thought made Michael feel a bit guilty.
He felt like he had set James up.
So he said, "If you don't tell me everything, I won't help you."
James, needing to vent, spilled the beans about Jessica's recent odd behavior.
Frustrated, James said, "I used to think I could read her like a book. Just one look in her eyes, and I knew what she was thinking. But now, I don't get her at all. She's changed so much; she's not the Jessica I knew."
Michael hesitated for a long time before admitting, "I need to tell you something. Please don't get mad."
"What?" James snapped, "Don't beat around the bush. Just say it. What can't we talk about?"
Michael, avoiding James's gaze, cautiously said, "Jessica came to see me before. She already knew her dad hit Rose. I think the real reason she wants a divorce is to give you to Rose, to seek forgiveness and get her dad out of trouble."
"What did you say? She came to see you?" James exclaimed, looking shocked.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" he roared angrily.
