Chapter 439 Buying an Engagement Ring (1)

"Otherwise? If I lose you, what good is everything else?"

James embraced her, gently patting her back, and said, "There, there, don't be sad. The company's situation isn't as bad as Jack makes it out to be. Even if it is, I can handle it. Don't worry about me, okay?"

Although he kept comforting her like this, from Jack's smug demeanor today, Jessica knew that the trouble James was in this time was no small matter.

How could she help James get out of this predicament?

Given how strained James' relationship with Linda and her son had become, if The Kelly Corporation ever fell into Jack's hands, they certainly wouldn't spare James.

With James' temperament, he couldn't possibly endure such humiliation.

Just then, James' phone rang.

When he answered, Charles' anxious voice came through, "Mr. James Kelly, something's wrong. You need to come to the hospital immediately. Mr. Gerald Kelly has fainted from anger."

"What?"

James' eyes narrowed, and he grabbed Jessica's hand, rushing to Gerald's hospital room.

When they arrived, they found Linda and George also at the door.

The door was tightly shut, and Charles said the doctors were inside trying to resuscitate Gerald.

James looked at Linda's guilty expression, his eyes filled with layers of murderous intent, and walked up to her, saying, "What did you say to Grandpa? Why did he suddenly fall ill?"

Linda was genuinely afraid of James, but George defended her, saying, "It's all because of you! You've been in charge of The Kelly Corporation for so long, and you went and acquired a company that's been losing money for years. Are you up to something, or do you have some ulterior motive? Grandpa heard about this and got so angry that he fell ill. How can you blame Linda?"

James couldn't believe that at a time like this, with Gerald's life hanging in the balance, George was still not worried and continued to smear him.

He looked coldly at George and said, "Stirring up the shareholders at the company, slandering me in front of Grandpa—you think the position of CEO of The Kelly Corporation is already yours, don't you?"

George's face turned pale, and he righteously said, "That position should have been mine in the first place! Have you ever seen a company where the person in charge is the grandson and not the son? Grandpa is clearly senile to be deceived by someone as unfilial and disloyal as you!"

Jessica watched James and George confront each other with such hostility, and a deep fear grew within her.

She felt heartache for him, sympathized with him, and even wondered why a father would treat his own child like an enemy.

George's eyes and heart were completely blinded by power and profit. Like Linda, he believed that James' existence was blocking their path!

Jessica was afraid George would say something even more hurtful. Although James appeared strong and indifferent, she knew he could still feel pain and sadness.

So, she gently tugged on James' hand and whispered, "Grandpa is still being resuscitated inside. Let's not argue with them."

With Jessica's soothing words, James temporarily let them off.

Soon, the doctor came out of the room, and everyone gathered around.

The doctor said gravely, "The patient's condition is extremely critical. Although we managed to save him this time, given his current state, he probably doesn't have much time left. You should prepare yourselves."

It felt as if a dark cloud was pressing down on James' heart, making even breathing difficult.
