Chapter 597 He Finally Met Susan (1)
Not long after, Sean's message came through, saying that Susan had already flown back overseas tonight, just half an hour ago.
James looked visibly disappointed and immediately asked, "When's she coming back? I thought she was working at Ocean City Hospital now?"
Sean explained, "Turns out she was invited back as an expert by Ocean City University. Her clinic hours are only from Monday to Wednesday. As soon as her clinic ends, she heads back overseas without delay."
James couldn't help but curse, "It's disgraceful, someone from Dragonrise treating another country like home!"
Sean sighed and said, "If you want to see her, you'll have to wait until next Monday."
Jessica took a red-eye flight back home, arriving just around noon overseas.
Her kids, Cordelia and Colt, were overjoyed and rushed into her arms for a hug.
Holding them, Jessica felt all her fatigue melt away.
Cordelia tilted her head, cupped Jessica's cheeks, and kissed her, saying, "Mommy, I missed you so much. Can you come back every day to tell me stories and tuck me in?"
Cordelia's chubby cheeks were filled with earnestness.
Colt chimed in confidently, "Yeah, Mommy, stop going abroad to work! I'll take care of you from now on!"
Jessica laughed at their innocent and sincere words, feeling her heart warm.
Just then, Nathan arrived with fresh groceries from the supermarket.
Since Jessica was often away, she had given Nathan the code to the house so he could frequently check on Cordelia and Colt.
Now, Cordelia and Colt were much more familiar with Nathan than before.
When Nathan came in, they didn't treat him like a guest but as if he were family.
"Hey, you're here," Jessica said, taking the groceries. "I noticed the fridge is still pretty stocked. You don't have to bring so much every time."
Nathan gently corrected her, "How many times have I told you? Stop calling me 'teacher.'"
Jessica's cheeks flushed slightly, and she softly said, "Nathan."
Nathan finally smiled and said warmly, "You just got off the plane, right? Go take a nap and adjust to the time difference. I'll make empanadas for dinner."
"Yummy empanadas!" Cordelia licked her lips eagerly. "They're my favorite!"
Even though Cordelia and Colt had grown up abroad, Jessica always made them traditional dishes, and she herself could only get used to the food from back home.
This was something that had never changed.
Jessica felt a bit embarrassed and said, "It's too much trouble. We could just order takeout or have the nanny cook."
Nathan chuckled and said, "She's been abroad for so long, she can't make authentic empanadas anymore."
With that, he gently pushed Jessica towards the bedroom, saying, "Alright, don't worry about it. Go rest for a bit, and I'll call you when dinner's ready."
After seeing Jessica get into bed, he quietly closed the door.
Back in the kitchen, he found Cordelia standing on her tiptoes, peering at the fresh shrimp in the sink.
Nathan playfully pinched Cordelia's nose and said, "You little foodie, I'll make your favorite shrimp empanadas today."
"Uncle Nathan, you're the best!"
Cordelia's eyes turned into crescent moons as she smiled, giving Nathan a big hug and a kiss.
