Chapter 575 Five Years Later (2)
He would never let her go just like that, without any explanation!
Even he was starting to lose sight of whether he hated her or loved her now.
If Jessica appeared in front of him again, how would he treat her?
Five years later.
In the lab of Aquilonia's top medical school.
A young woman with a sleek bob haircut and black-rimmed glasses was deeply engrossed in her scientific research.
Despite wearing a blue mask, her delicate features and contours were still evident.
At that moment, a colleague walked in and said, "Susan, you forgot to pick up your kids again! Mr. Howard had to go get them for you."
Susan was the name Jessica used at Sylvanor School.
And four years ago, she had joined Nathan's team.
Here, she was hailed as a research prodigy. Thanks to her exceptional talent, Jessica developed several heart disease treatments that had been patented and featured in numerous prestigious medical journals.
Reflecting on the past four years, during which she had neglected her two children due to her research, Jessica felt a pang of guilt.
Her colleague Lily reminded her, "Susan, today is your kids' birthday. Did you forget again?"
"Oh, right." Jessica smacked her forehead in frustration. "I've been so swamped lately that I've left them with the nanny. But I'm in the middle of an experiment and can't leave."
Lily chuckled and said, "How far along are you? I'll take over for you. You should go home. Mr. Howard already bought the cake; you're the only one missing."
Jessica hesitated for a moment, not wanting to disappoint her kids, and then thanked Lily, "Alright, I'll head out then. Thanks, Lily."
"No need to be so formal with me."
Lily was a junior member of their team, all part of Nathan's group.
She was the most gossipy one among them and now grinned at Jessica, saying, "Susan, happy birthday to your kids. Make sure to spend some quality time with Mr. Howard tonight after the kids go to bed!"
Jessica playfully glared at her and said, "Be careful, or Mr. Howard might make you pull three consecutive night shifts in the lab tomorrow!"
With that, she hurried home.
In the car, she had the gifts she bought for her kids last month as a reward for their straight A's in kindergarten.
It looked like she would have to pass them off as birthday presents today.
As soon as she opened the door, the aroma of steak and pizza greeted her.
Her two kids, a boy and a girl, rushed towards her.
"Mommy! Why did you take so long to come home?"
Cordelia Evans jumped into her arms, hugging Jessica's neck and whining, "I missed you so much. Did you get our presents? Did you buy the gifts for me and my brother?"
The little girl's chubby, rosy cheeks made her look like a doll.
At that moment, Colt Evans, dressed in a tiny black suit, scoffed and said, "Cordelia, you're so childish! Mommy's been so busy, she probably forgot to buy the presents!"
Jessica put Cordelia down, knelt, and pinched Colt's cheek, saying, "You're such a rascal. How could Mommy forget to buy you presents?"
