Chapter 286 James Lied to Her (2)

Kylie bolted after her, but it was a lost cause. Jessica had already vanished. Determined, Jessica hopped into a cab and headed straight to the Evans Family house.

As soon as she walked in, she spotted Louisa, who looked like she hadn't eaten in days, all because of John. The second Louisa saw Jessica, her face twisted with rage. "Oh, so you finally decided to show up?" she snapped.

Ignoring James's warning, Louisa's voice sliced through the air. "Your dad's been locked up for days, and you're out there living it up with the Kellys! We should've never raised you! You're heartless!"

Jessica tuned out the rant, stepping closer to Louisa. "How did my dad end up in court? Who did he hit?" she asked, her voice steady but her eyes blazing.

"So you still don't know!" Louisa spat. "If your dad hadn't tried to defend you and hit that woman named Rose, would he be in this mess? It's all your fault, you bringer of bad luck. My family is cursed because of you!"

Jessica saw pure hatred in Louisa's eyes; there was never a hint of love from her grandma. But Louisa's words confirmed Jessica's worst fears. Tears welled up as she choked out, "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"Because James threatened us to keep quiet!" Louisa fumed. "He said he'd help get John out, but it's all lies! It's been ages, and there's no hope. He must be feeling sorry for that woman and her unborn kid. He probably wants John to rot in jail!"

Jessica's heart sank. How could James do this? He'd hidden so much from her and made everyone else complicit. She'd been blissfully ignorant, throwing herself into his arms, while her dad suffered in prison. All of this was because of her. Her heart felt like it was tearing apart, her trust in James shattered.

Louisa spat out, "Get out! If you can't get your dad out, don't ever come back! You are not part of the Evans family!"

Amid Louisa's scolding, Jessica stumbled out of the Evans Family home in a daze. She wandered the streets; everything around her was a blur, and her mind was a mess. Too many questions and conflicts tore at her heart. She couldn't understand why James would lie to her.

Just like she couldn't understand why John would go to such extremes and hit Rose. She couldn't believe that the always kind and gentle John would be so foolish.

Jessica felt a crushing guilt. After thinking for what felt like forever, she finally hailed a cab and headed to Michael's law firm. Michael, surprised by the unexpected visit, came out personally to greet her.

"Mr. Watson," Jessica's voice trembled slightly, but she walked over with determination.

Michael felt a headache coming on. It was too late to inform James. He asked his secretary to prep some coffee and led Jessica into his office.

"Ms. Evans, what brings you here today?" Michael asked, his expression calm and composed.

Jessica held back her tears and asked, "I need to know if my dad can still get out?"

Michael, being a lawyer, always played it safe with his words and actions.
