Chapter 459 The One Who Should Leave Is You! (1)
She looked at him in surprise, "Mr. Howard, how did you know I was here?"
Nathan's gaze fell on her wrist, his brow furrowed tightly. "I heard from a colleague that there was a girl in the ER who had slit her wrist and looked a lot like my student. I didn't expect it to actually be my student. Jessica, I need an explanation."
Nathan had always been lenient with her before; this was the first time he questioned her in such a stern voice.
Jessica lowered her head and said softly, "I'm sorry, Mr. Howard, I had no choice today, but it's inconvenient to explain."
Nathan's frown deepened; he was indeed angry.
Because Jessica was always so evasive with him, so distant, so polite.
She didn't want him involved in any part of her life.
Nathan couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration. He looked at her wrist wrapped in white gauze and said, "Your husband can't even protect you?"
Jessica was stunned, looking at Nathan in astonishment.
Nathan was also surprised at himself. How could he blurt out such an unprofessional remark?
What was he doing?
Was he trying to sow discord between her and her husband?
Before Jessica could respond, Nathan immediately corrected himself and said sternly, "You are my student. If you do something like this and it results in a fatality, do you know what kind of impact it would have on me and the department? Jessica, please think before you act. Sometimes, the people you hurt aren't just yourself!"
After speaking, he took out an ointment from his lab coat and said, "The doctor here said you only have a superficial wound, but girls have delicate skin, and scars are inevitable. When the wound heals, remember to apply this; it can help remove scars."
Jessica took the ointment, not recognizing what it was.
She said emotionally, "Thank you, Mr. Howard. I won't do this again. This time, I've caused you trouble."
Although Nathan had just scolded her, what he did was genuinely out of concern for her.
With that, Nathan left her hospital room.
The elevator doors opened, and he happened to run into James, who had just returned with some egg tarts for Jessica.
Nathan's expression froze for a moment, and he nodded slightly in greeting.
James's face darkened as he stepped out of the elevator and said, "Professor Howard, you wouldn't be here to visit my wife, would you?"
Nathan didn't answer but said, "Seeing Jessica safe and sound, I am relieved."
James chuckled sarcastically, "Indeed, Professor Howard is really concerned about my wife. She hasn't been injured for more than a few hours, and you're already here."
Although Nathan was a gentleman, he was not to be trifled with.
"Mr. Kelly, you're exaggerating. Jessica is my student. If something happens to her, as her teacher, I have a responsibility to know her situation." Nathan slightly curled his lips and said, "But Mr. Kelly, it's quite questionable that you can't even protect your own wife."
James clenched his fists tightly and said in a restrained voice, "Professor Howard, you must be around thirty this year, right? Is your capability just about keeping an eye on other people's wives?"
This smoke-free war left them evenly matched, with neither gaining the upper hand.
At this moment, the elevator doors opened again.
Nathan gave him a deep look and walked into the elevator.
James's eyes darkened. When he reached the door of Jessica's hospital room, he adjusted his emotions and pretended to know nothing as he opened the door.
