Chapter 308 James is Injured (4)

Jessica spotted some blood drops on the ground and her heart skipped a beat. Did he get hurt in that fight just now?

Without thinking, she bolted after him, but James was too quick and had already slipped into the room. She hesitated at the master bedroom door for what felt like forever before finally knocking.

Pearl answered, leaning against the door with her wavy hair cascading over her shoulders, looking all kinds of smug. "Jessica, it's late. Is the storage room too cold for you to sleep?" she asked, all fake sweetness.

Jessica's heart ached, but she kept her cool. "Is James hurt? I came to check on him. If he's fine, I'll leave."

Before Pearl could respond, James's icy voice cut through the air from inside. "No need. Let her go!"

Jessica's face went pale, feeling utterly humiliated. Pearl smirked, "Did you hear that? He doesn't want to see you. Better leave before you embarrass yourself more."

Even though she was worried, Jessica didn't stick around to get humiliated further. She swallowed her pride and headed back to her room, feeling a mix of worry and guilt.

Pearl shut the door and quickly put on a concerned face. "Mr. Kelly, where are you hurt? Is it because of Jessica?"

James showed his injured left hand, cut by a shattered beer bottle during the brawl with those thugs. Pearl gasped, "Ah! There's so much blood!"

James frowned. "What's all the fuss about? Go get the first aid kit and bandage me up."

Pearl, who had never dealt with anything like this, fumbled around trying to treat his wound, making a mess of it. James had to take over, wrapping the bandage himself, grumbling, "You're useless!"

Every moment with him had Pearl on edge, always alert, yet he constantly berated her.

The next morning, Jessica showed up at the dining table, surprising everyone. Olivia, especially happy, whispered before James came down, "Mrs. Kelly, you finally came around! If you soften up a bit, Mr. Kelly will definitely change his mind."

Jessica forced a smile. She wasn't softening up; she was just worried about his injury. She needed to see for herself that he was okay.

Soon, James and Pearl arrived, both surprised to see Jessica at the table, especially James. He thought she had more pride, considering she hadn't eaten at the table since Pearl showed up. But there she was, sitting calmly.

Jessica's eyes were glued to his bandaged left hand.
