Chapter 70 Didn't Take Him Seriously

After he spoke, he turned off the light, lay on his side, and seemed to be sulking.

Jessica just stared at him, speechless.

She used to think he was as cold as ice, always scheming and unpredictable.

But now, why did he seem so childish and petty, getting mad over the smallest things?

She slowly lay down beside him and softly said, "James, thank you. Even though your way was a bit intense, I know you treated Kylie like that for my sake."

At least he still somewhat considered her his wife, right?

No response.

Jessica thought he had fallen asleep and didn't hear her.

She turned her back, ready to sleep, when an arm pulled her into a tight embrace.

Jessica tensed up, her whole body stiffening.

She could even hear her heartbeat in the darkness.

Jessica awkwardly moved, but James held her tighter, whispering, "If you move again, I won't be so nice."

That did the trick, and Jessica in his arms finally quieted down.

Meanwhile, Jack stumbled back to the old house after drinking his sorrows away, waking up Gerald.

Gerald looked at him, annoyed. "What now? Coming home reeking of alcohol and waking me up in the middle of the night, do you think I've lived too long?"

Jack quickly said, "Grandpa, please don't be mad. If it wasn't important, I wouldn't dare wake you! I went to pick up Jessica today, waited all day, and didn't see her. Do you know what happened? James picked her up!" Jack slapped his thigh in anger, trying to get Gerald's sympathy.

But Gerald stayed calm, asking, "That's it?"

"Grandpa, isn't this a big deal?" Jack said indignantly. "You told James to deal with that woman outside before picking up Jessica. But he just ignored you!"

Gerald asked, "Did James take the initiative to pick up Jessica?"

"Yes, of course." Jack said angrily. "Do you think he still respects what you say?"

But Gerald wasn't angry at all; instead, he laughed, "Not bad, not bad, there's a possibility!"

So, James was jealous?

Even the always arrogant James had a day when he got jealous!

Gerald suddenly felt that his approach was absolutely right.

James should taste what it's like to be ignored!

Jack was very puzzled and asked, "What do you mean?"

Gerald looked at him seriously, "Did you really think I asked you to pick up Jessica to keep James away from her? I did it to provoke James, to make him see his own heart!"

Jack was stunned.

'So, I am being used by Gerald? It turns out I am just Grandpa's pawn, and Grandpa didn't value me at all.' Thinking of this, a deep sense of loss filled his heart.

Gerald snorted coldly, "Listen, now that James is finally willing to spend time with Jessica, don't disturb them, got it?"

"Oh." Jack responded, but he couldn't stop feeling sad.

Until Gerald went upstairs, Jack hadn't snapped out of his earlier disappointment.

Jack couldn't help but think, 'Why does everyone revolve around James? Why do they let me get involved, only to tell me I am just a pawn to help James and Jessica's relationship grow?'

Suddenly, Jessica's words echoed in his mind: "I believe in you. As long as you work hard, your future won't be worse than James's!"
