Chapter 574 Five Years Later (1)

James clenched his jaw in anger and snapped, "What about you? Why aren't you out there looking for her?"

"I'm on it," Sean replied.

Just as Sean finished speaking, his phone rang. He listened to the report from his subordinate, and his face went pale.

James noticed Sean's expression and demanded, "What is it? Do you have news about Jessica?"

Sean, still in shock, said, "They said Mrs. Kelly went in for an abortion."

James stared at him, stunned. He grabbed Sean by the collar and shouted, "What did you just say? Say it again!"

"Mrs. Kelly went in for the procedure," Sean repeated, struggling to get the words out. "My guy just reported that the surgery started over half an hour ago."

James's mind went blank. He let go of Sean and bolted out the door. The elevator was too slow, so he took the stairs, flying down them two at a time.

He didn't know how many red lights he ran on the way, but the streets of Ocean City were always so congested. By the time he reached the hospital, an hour had passed.

He rushed to the obstetrics department, ignoring anyone who tried to stop him, and burst into the operating room. The nurses were cleaning up the instruments.

He grabbed one of them and demanded, "Where's Jessica? Did you just perform surgery on her?"

The nurse replied, "Are you talking about the woman who was four months pregnant? Yes, the procedure was finished twenty minutes ago."

James's temples throbbed. He gritted his teeth and asked, "Who authorized you to perform the surgery? Who gave you permission?"

The nurse, confused, said, "The patient requested it herself. She signed the consent form." She handed the consent form to James. "See for yourself."

Jessica's name was clearly written in the signature line, each letter unmistakably hers.

James's hands trembled as he held the consent form, unable to believe it. She was so kind, so loving towards this child. How could she bear to end its life?

Jessica, have I hurt you so deeply that you want to sever all ties with me in such a final way?

His heart felt like it was being torn apart, leaving a raw, bleeding wound. He pulled out his phone and immediately called Jessica. But, as expected, her phone was off.

Suddenly, his Facebook notification sounded. It was a voice message from Jessica. He quickly opened it, and her hoarse, exhausted voice came through.

"James, this way, we have no ties left. We're even now. You killed my father, so I killed your child. We're square."

"No!" James roared, his voice filled with anguish and rage, like a lion trapped in a hopeless situation, venting his fury and despair.

After a long time, he finally collected his thoughts and ordered Sean to search all the hospitals, airports, and train stations. He had to find Jessica! Even if she had aborted his child, he had to see her and confront her face-to-face!
