Chapter 144 James Came to Save Her (3)
James held back his anger and asked calmly, "So, what did Jessica say?"
"She hasn't confessed yet," Louisa sneered. "But she will, and she'll pay for it."
James pressed, "And what kind of price are you thinking?"
Louisa declared, "She should face the police and legal punishment! Pearl's child can't be lost easily! This affects Kelly family too."
James grew more worried about Jessica as he looked at the harsh Louisa.
His anger showed as he asked, "So, has Mrs. Evans found any evidence?"
Louisa's confidence wavered, and she replied softly, "Not yet."
James was firm, "Alright, since there's no evidence, let me take my wife home. If you find proof, I won't cover for her. Deal?"
Louisa stammered, "That won't do. Jessica is part of the Evans family, and I should decide this."
James laughed coldly, stepped closer, and snapped, "Jessica is my wife. No one in Ocean City can make decisions for me!"
He turned to his bodyguards, "Search the house! Find Mrs. Kelly immediately!"
"Yes, sir!" The bodyguards began searching the Evans house.
Louisa panicked, "You're trespassing! Stop them now, or I'll never forgive you!"
James had lost all patience and respect for Louisa.
He smirked, "Mrs. Evans, do you know who you're talking to? If my wife is unharmed, fine. But if she's hurt, you'll face charges of illegal detention!"
A voice came from the basement, "Mr. Kelly, we've found Mrs. Kelly! Come take a look!"
James didn't expect Jessica to be in the basement. His face darkened, and he glared at Louisa.
In the basement, James was shocked.
Jessica's face was pale, her hair soaked with sweat and clinging to her cheeks.
She seemed delirious from the heat, not noticing him as he approached. She was curled up and staring blankly.
"Jessica," he called, trembling.
Jessica looked up, staring at him in disbelief.
"James, why are you here? How could it be you?" She laughed and cried, trying to stand and throw herself into his arms.
But she had no strength left, and her legs felt like cotton.
James scooped her up and murmured, "I'm sorry I'm late."
He couldn't believe Jessica, a blood relative of the Evans family, was treated this way by her grandmother.
If he had been any later, he couldn't imagine what might have happened.
James carried her quickly, not wanting to waste another moment there.
As he passed through the living room, he shot a stern gaze at Louisa.
