Chapter 145 I'll Help You Find It

James's voice was icy. "Jessica won't admit it even you're in jail! The bodyguards are watching you. The cops are on their way."

Louisa's heart dropped. She never thought James would actually call the police, especially she was Jessica's elder.

She watched helplessly as James took Jessica away, then stumbled to Joan's door.

Joan had heard everything but didn't dare come out. When Louisa called anxiously, Joan pretended to have just woken up, opened the door, and asked, "Mrs. Evans, what's wrong? Why are you up so late?"

"Joan, something's happened! James was just here." Louisa said in a panic. She didn't realize Joan was pretending and was about to ask for advice.

Before they could talk much, the police arrived and arrested Louisa for illegal detention.

In the car, James cranked up the AC and fed Jessica some soda. "Drink slowly. There's plenty," he said, looking at her with concern.

Jessica was his wife, and he'd give her anything. But now,  it broke his heart that Jessica was so desperate for water.

Jessica feeling a bit better until downed two bottles of soda.

James had the driver pull over and said softly, "Wait here. I'll get you something to eat."

Jessica hadn't eaten all day, and he needed to get her food quickly. He found a dessert shop nearby, bought a bunch of stuff, and Jessica gobbled it up.

James felt a pang of sorrow and silently vowed to make Louisa pay.

After eating and drinking, Jessica's strength returned. Her first sentence was, "Why did you come so late? I thought I wouldn't see you again." Then she burst into tears.

James held her and said softly, "I'm sorry. I know I was late. I shouldn't have gone abroad and left you alone."

"James, you must believe me, I didn't push Pearl," Jessica insisted, trembling in his arms, finely crying let his heart also pulled up.

James's voice was soft but firm, "I believe you. My wife isn't that kind of person. I believe you."

Jessica said, "But no one else believes me. Even my grandma doesn't. She's really scary. She treated me like this just because of Pearl."

If James had been a few days later, she feared that Louisa would kill her.

James patted her back and comforted her, "From now on, I won't let this happen again. It's doesn't matter whether they believe you or not. Grandpa and I believe you, that's enough."

Since the Evans family was so scary, he wouldn't let Jessica go back there again.

But Jessica said stubbornly, "I don't want to be labeled with that crime. I will find evidence to prove my innocence."

James gently stroked her hair. "I'll help you find it. But for now, you need to rest and get your strength back."

Jessica nodded obediently.

Luckily, James had returned. His embrace felt like a safe harbor, shielding her from all the storms outside.

If only he could always be by her side, how wonderful that would be.
