James frowned slightly and explained, "Didn't I tell you before? My grandpa is seriously ill, and I need to be with him lately."
Roseasked with feigned concern , "Is he any better?"
James sighed slightly and said, "Still the same."
Rose thought to herself, 'Gerald sure is holding on, why isn't he dead yet?'
But on the surface, she showed a look of regret and said, "Oh, grandpa has such a hard life. I see you've lost a lot of weight taking care of him lately, it really makes me feel sad."
"I'm fine, just take care of yourself and don't make me worry," James said flatly, "I still have work to do, you should go back."
Rose deliberately ignored James's cold demeanor, forced a smile, and said, "I know you're unhappy every day because of grandpa. But your birthday is coming up, it only happens once a year. I've already prepared everything."
