Chapter 146 James Wants to Help Her Bathe

Jessica got home and took a shower.

James, worried, asked, "You still got energy?"

"Even if I don't, I need to. That place was so moldy, I feel gross," Jessica grumbled.

James smirked, "Want me to help you shower?"

Jessica blushed, heart racing, and pouted, "No way! I can shower by myself!"

She quickly slipped into the bathroom and locked the door.

After her shower, James took one in another bathroom while Olivia prepared some late-night snacks.

"Now, eat something," James pointed to the snacks on the coffee table. "Olivia made these just for you."

Jessica smiled awkwardly, "I ate too much on the way back. I'm stuffed."

"At least have this chicken soup," James suggested gently. "It's late, and Olivia got up to make these. Show some respect."

So, Jessica obediently drank the chicken soup.

That night, James held her, trying to coax her to sleep.

But Jessica was too scared to sleep.

"Can't sleep?" he kissed her forehead softly.

Jessica nestled closer, nodded, and muttered, "I'm so sad. I never thought the person who hurt me the most would be my own family."

James didn't know how to comfort her. His family had hurt him too, but not as badly as Jessica's.

His voice was gentle, "Then treat me as your family from now on. If you don't want to deal with the Evans family, just don't."

"Will you hurt me in the future?" Jessica looked up at him, her eyes bright even in the dark. "You're more special than family. If I regard you as my everything, wouldn't being hurt in this manner be even more unbearable?"

James's held her closer and gently scolding, "Silly girl, what are you thinking? I'd never hurt you. If I ever do, believe it was unintentional."

"James, I miss my mom," Jessica's tears fell.

The only person who'd never hurt her, intentionally or not, was her mom.

She knew James had Rose, and that hurt her too.

James patiently said, "How about I accompany you to the cemetery to visit her in a couple of days?"

"When I find out the truth and prove my innocence, I'll visit her," Jessica's voice was soft but firm. "If Mom knew I was wronged, she'd be heartbroken. I want to tell her I've grown up and can protect myself now."

James sighed and gently reminded her, "Don't forget, you still have me."

Jessica, still weak, fell asleep deeply in James's arms, holding onto him tightly.

Once her breathing steadied, James took out his phone and called Sean.

He instructed, "Release the news tomorrow: The Evans family matriarch imprisoned her granddaughter with extreme measures, and the police have been notified."

James kept his voice low to avoid waking Jessica, but it was enough to convey his anger.

Louisa didn't deserve any consideration since she didn't care about Jessica.
