Chapter 370 He Still Can't Let Her Go (4)

Sometimes, Jessica's long, flowing hair would catch the wind and brush against James's cheek, stirring his feelings for her.

When they got back, Gerald was still out cold, and Jessica stayed by his side, worried sick.

Meanwhile, James snuck off to the cardiology department. He was determined to find proof to clear Jessica's name.

Jessica had no clue where he had disappeared to.

Thinking about how Nathan had quietly forked out $200,000 for her, she felt a mix of guilt and anxiety.

She knew she had to pay him back. Otherwise, she'd never be able to sleep at night.

After a lot of hesitation, she called up Lily to ask for a $200,000 loan.

"That much?" Lily asked, sounding concerned. "What's going on? Why do you need so much money all of a sudden?"

Jessica whispered, "It's urgent. I'll explain when we meet this weekend. But if you can't swing it, it's okay. I'll figure something else out."

Lily agreed without hesitation, "Alright, I'll transfer it to you in a bit."

The next morning, Jessica went to find Nathan.

Seeing the bank card Jessica handed over, Nathan looked puzzled, "What's this?"

Jessica, feeling awkward, said, "This is $200,000. I'm paying you back. Professor Howard, I didn't know you paid so much to help me out."

Nathan's face froze, and he asked in disbelief, "Who told you?"

He had kept it so low-key that only the director and the patient's family knew about it.

Jessica didn't answer, but earnestly said, "I'm really grateful for what you did for me. But please take this money. Otherwise, I'll feel really guilty."

With that, she placed the bank card on Nathan's desk.

"As a student, where did all this money come from?" Nathan frowned, his mind flashing back to Cynthia's words about Jessica being kept by someone.

He thought, 'Could it be true? How else could a regular college student come up with $200,000?'

Jessica explained, "I borrowed it from a friend."

Hearing this, Nathan's heart sank.

His gaze turned scrutinizing and disappointed as he said to Jessica, "I didn't tell you about handling this because I didn't want you to feel pressured. You're a good student and very talented. I don't want your life to get tangled up in messy stuff, got it?"

Jessica looked at him blankly, nodded somewhat understandingly, and said, "Professor Howard, I won't let you down. I'll get back to work now. Take care."

Nathan watched Jessica walk away and stared at the bank card on his desk, his mind swirling with questions.

Honestly, a student's private life was none of a teacher's business. As long as her work was fine, it didn't matter how messy her personal life was.

But Nathan couldn't shake it. He actually cared so much about Jessica's private affairs that it was messing with his peace of mind.
