Chapter 71 Waking Up in His Arms

She was the first person to ever say stuff like that to him.

Even his mom always said he wasn't as good as James and that James was holding him back.

Jack thought, 'No one believes in me. Only Jessica, just her.'

He was so upset he couldn't sleep all night, wondering what Jessica and James did after James took her home.

But James slept like a baby.

Morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow on the bed.

When Jessica woke up in his arms, she felt awkward and mumbled, "Morning."

James looked down at the sleepy-eyed Jessica and asked, "Morning. Sleep well?"

Jessica thought for a moment. She hadn't had any weird dreams and felt refreshed.

Blushing, she said, "It was okay. How about you?"

James replied, "Me too. The weather's cleared up."

Jessica smiled, "After all that rain, it's finally sunny."

Looking at the rising sun, her mood brightened.

Still, Jessica felt uneasy with the intimacy.

"I'll go freshen up, or I'll be late," she said, quickly finding an excuse to leave the bed.

James watched her retreat like a little rabbit, a slight smile on his lips.

Downstairs, Olivia had already set up a full breakfast.

Seeing them come down together, she was genuinely surprised.

Then, she smiled with relief, "Mr. Kelly, Mrs. Kelly, did you sleep well?"

"Not bad," James said, taking Jessica's hand.

After they sat down, James said gently, "I'll take you after we eat. It's still early, no rush, take your time."

Jessica, feeling flattered, took the milk he handed her and sipped it slowly.

It wasn't until after breakfast, when she got into James's car, that Jessica finally voiced her question.

She asked mysteriously, "Are you suspicious of Olivia?"

"What?" James looked at her, puzzled.

Jessica's clear eyes were equally puzzled, "Otherwise, why are you suddenly being so nice to me? You must suspect that Olivia is the one passing messages to Linda, and you're doing this on purpose for her to see, right?"

James's face suddenly darkened, thinking, 'So, in Jessica's mind, everything I did has a motive. Even being nice to her, she can misinterpret it this way!'

James stepped on the gas, and the car sped off, startling Jessica.

"What are you doing?" she exclaimed, quickly fastening her seatbelt.

She almost threw up the breakfast she had just eaten.

James said coldly, "If you're not used to me being nice to you, I can treat you worse!"

With a stern face, he dropped her off at the school gate without saying another word.

Before getting out of the car, Jessica said gloomily, "If you don't want to take me, you don't have to. Why be so mean to me all the way?"

Just as she pushed open the car door, James suddenly reached out and closed it again.

The next second, he cupped her face.

His kiss landed on her pouting lips.

Jessica's eyes widened, completely unable to understand his thoughts and unpredictable moods.
