Chapter 505 The Only Person She Couldn't Let Go Of (3)

Michael's sharp gaze pierced through his gold-rimmed glasses. He curled his lips and said, word by word, "How can you just forget the murder of my father? I've let your family live peacefully for so many years, and that's already giving you a lot of face."

John asked nervously, "Then tell me, what do I have to do for you to let Jessica go? Jessica is just like Lily; they are both innocent. Adam and I deserve to be punished, so let us atone for our sins. Why do you have to make things difficult for two girls?"

A hint of malice flashed across Michael's brows as he squinted and said, "Mr. Evans, did I hear you right? A person who caused someone's death and doesn't dare to admit it is talking to me about righteousness and morality. They are innocent, but what about me? I lost my father when I was ten. Does that mean I deserved it?"

After speaking, he said coldly, "You know what you need to do, John. But remember, the lives you owe will never have an end."

The Evans family.

When John returned, Jessica immediately approached him.

"Dad, where did you go?"

Jessica looked at John's ashen face and asked worriedly, "Grandmother said you went out early this morning. Are you feeling unwell? Did you go to the hospital?"

"No, I'm fine."

John didn't look at Jessica; he just walked forward, lost in thought, and said, "You don't need to worry about me."

Jessica felt increasingly uneasy about John's behavior, especially after Louisa's words this morning. She was getting more and more scared.

"Dad, what's wrong?" She held onto John and pleaded, "Tell me the truth, what happened? Did I cause you trouble by asking you to help Lily yesterday? If that's the case, don't worry about it. I'll find another way. I didn't force you to do anything, really."

John sighed heavily, held Jessica's hand, and said earnestly, "Jessica, I'm getting old, and the only person I can't stop worrying about is you. Now, only James can protect you and let you live the rest of your life without worries. Be good, call James, and have him come pick you up."

Jessica's heart raced even faster. Why did John's words sound like he was saying his last goodbyes?

She didn't want to think negatively, but she couldn't deceive herself.

Jessica sniffled and choked up, "You're not even sixty yet, how are you old? I don't need you to protect me; from now on, I'll protect you. I'm not going anywhere; I'll stay with you."

John smiled helplessly, tears welling up in his eyes, "You, always saying childish things. A daughter grows up and gets married; she doesn't stay home with her father forever. Be good, call James. As long as you and he are doing well, I'll be at ease."

Just then, Jessica's phone rang.

She didn't expect James's call to come at such a coincidental moment.

She glanced at John and still answered the call.

James's voice came through, calm and steady, "The wedding photos we took at Honeywind, the photographer just sent the electronic versions. I posted them on your Facebook; take a look and see if there's anything that needs editing."

He didn't mention Lily again, and his tone with Jessica was as if they had been together for a long time, warm and natural.

Jessica's heart softened completely, and she didn't want to blame him for the matter with Lily.

Especially seeing John's expectant face, Jessica didn't want to disappoint him.

But what was going on with James?

He only mentioned selecting photos and didn't say anything about her coming back.
