Chapter 27 The Old Man Passes Away
During the argument, the ambulance arrived.
The old woman was carried into the ambulance, and Jessica was also forcibly pulled into the vehicle.
Since she was the one who made the call, she was supposed to go to the hospital as well.
"Don't you run away! I'm telling you, this isn't over. If anything happens to my mom, I won't let you off!"
The man kept threatening, but Jessica remained silent, instinctively taking out her phone to call James.
However, the call was quickly hung up after it started ringing.
A look of confusion flashed in Jessica's eyes, and then she seemed to realize something, smiling self-deprecatingly.
She should have known that James wouldn't care, but in that moment, she couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope.
Unfortunately, it ended like this.
Jessica listened silently to the man's accusations, knowing that she could only rely on herself now.
After the ambulance stopped, the old man was carried into the emergency room.
But instead of caring for his mother, the man kept pestering Jessica.
"I'm telling you, you have to wait until my mom wakes up. You must compensate me. It's not over. Don't think you can leave!"
The man said, pulling Jessica's wrist and dragging her to the door.
"I told you it has nothing to do with me. I was just trying to help. That's your mother. Shouldn't you be waiting for news? Are you doing this for money, or are you really worried about your mother?"
Jessica took a deep breath and vented all her anger.
Her words only made the man angrier, and he pushed Jessica hard.
Caught off guard, Jessica fell to the ground, feeling sore all over and unable to stand up.
Her eyes reddened, and she felt helpless under the gossiping stares of the people around her.
So many people were watching, but no one stepped in to help. They were just there for the spectacle.
"This young girl is really heartless to be so cruel to an old person. Now she's caught and claims it was a heart attack. How convenient. The old person had a heart attack just when she was around? I bet she did it and couldn't escape! Got caught by the family!"
"Look at how agitated that man is. The old person must be seriously hurt. Young people these days are really scary."
No one cared about the truth; they all speculated based on their own assumptions.
Jessica was dragged to the emergency room door by the man.
"I'm telling you, if anything happens to my mother today, you'll pay the price. Kneel here and wait for the surgery results!"
"Let go of me! If you keep this up, I'll call the police. I told you it's not my fault. Don't you know your mother has a heart condition? Or are you accusing me because you don't want to pay the medical bills?"
Jessica tried to struggle, but her hair was pulled, causing her whole body to tremble in pain.
In the end, she couldn't hold back and bit the man's wrist hard.
The man, in pain, let go of his hand and angrily slapped Jessica.
The crisp, loud slap left Jessica stunned.
Her head buzzed, and her cheek instantly swelled up, looking shocking.
