Chapter 275 It's So Good to Have You Here

Jessica was all jittery and asked, "So, can you spill the beans now?"

James took a deep breath, deciding to give her a half-truth. "Your dad hit someone with his car. It's a messy situation, but I've got Michael on it."

He left out any mention of Rose or the real reason behind the accident, worried it would crush Jessica. If she found out her dad hurt someone because of her, the guilt would be too much. So, he made it sound like a simple car accident.

"But that doesn't add up," Jessica said, her voice shaky. "Why did Lily say my dad's being charged with intentional harm? Even if he hit someone, it should be an accident."

"The other party's suing with that charge, probably trying to get more money," James reassured her. "Don't stress, Michael's a pro with criminal cases. If there's any doubt, he'll dig up the evidence fast."

Jessica's eyes were red, and she choked up as she asked, "How's the other person doing? If their injuries aren't too bad, can my dad get out soon? And take me to see them. I'll apologize. I'll do anything if they let my dad go."

James's expression shifted slightly, and he quickly said, "The other person is seriously hurt and doesn't want to see us. They didn't even give us their address."

Despair washed over Jessica. She muttered, "What do I do? I can't see Dad, and I can't see the victim. How can I help?"

James tried to calm her down. "Jessica, chill. Trust me. I'll have Michael keep a close eye on your dad's case. We'll get him out ASAP."

"Really?" she asked, doubt clouding her voice. "But if the other person is seriously hurt, this will be tough. Will Dad go to jail?"

James didn't answer directly. Instead, he pulled her into a comforting hug, gently stroking her hair. "Don't overthink it. We're doing everything we can. As long as I'm here, I'll always be with you."

His deep voice gradually calmed Jessica down. At that moment, James felt like a safe harbor, giving her warmth and hope.

Tears streaked her face as she looked up, her voice small and vulnerable. "It's so good to have you here," she murmured.

James smiled softly, kissing the top of her head. "Then promise me you won't push me away again, okay?"

She nodded, her resolve renewed. "Okay."

Just then, James's phone rang, the name "Rose" flashing on the screen. Jessica's heart sank, a wave of bitterness washing over her. She wanted to ask if Rose had really been sent abroad. Why were they still in touch?

But with her dad in jail and needing James's support, Jessica felt a sting of humility. Afraid of angering him, she forced herself to smile and said, "You should take that. I'll grab something to eat. I'm a bit hungry."

With that, she hurried to the kitchen. Only this way could she hide the loneliness and sadness in her eyes from him.

James was called to the hospital by Rose's phone call. Apparently, she couldn't accept the doctor's news that she would never be able to dance again and might even be crippled.

When James arrived at the hospital, a bunch of doctors and nurses were surrounding Rose.
