Chapter 266 Tell Me, Should I Be Angry?

James's eyes lit up, and he smirked, "Wait, you think she's jealous?" he asked.

Michael snorted, "Duh! You've been with Rose forever. You should be a pro at reading women by now. How can you not see through Jessica's little games?"

James rolled his eyes and went quiet. With Rose, everything was easy. She always followed his lead, no drama. Jessica, on the other hand, was a whole different story—always stirring things up.

James shot Michael a sly grin. "You act all aloof, but you sure know a lot about women."

Then he got up and said, "I'm outta here."

Michael rolled his eyes and groaned, "Seriously? We barely had a drink, and you're ditching me? Don't forget, you dragged me out here in the middle of the night."

James patted his shoulder. "Gotta go home and smooth things over with the wife! You should find yourself a girl, too. Working all the time, where's the fun in that?"

Michael shrugged. "I like it that way!" Not wanting to argue, he gave James a light shove. "If you're leaving, then just go!"

When James got home, he saw a slender figure on the living room sofa. He walked over and found Jessica asleep in a corner, a thick medical book on the floor.

Under the warm yellow light, she looked so peaceful. Her tanned cheeks and pink lips made everything seem perfect. James couldn't help but feel a wave of calm wash over him, pushing away the earlier tension.

He bent down to carry her to bed, but Jessica woke up as soon as he moved. "You're back?" she said, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

James responded with a deep "Yeah," sat down next to her, and asked, "Why'd you fall asleep here? If you're tired, go to bed. You'll catch a cold out here."

Jessica watched his face carefully and asked, "Are you still mad?"

James chuckled, eyes narrowing, "Mad? You know what you did? Should I be mad?"

Jessica said guiltily, "I was just kidding."

James's expression turned a bit cold, his deep eyes locking onto hers. "Don't joke like that again. It's not funny."

Jessica hadn't expected him to let it slide so easily, but she quickly agreed. Just then, she caught a whiff of alcohol on his breath.

Remembering how he had messed with her in the bathroom last night, she instinctively moved a bit away and frowned. "Why'd you drink again today?"

James wasn't about to tell her that guys drink not just for socializing but also when they're feeling down.

He smiled. "Hadn't seen Michael in a while, so we had a few drinks."

Then, he suddenly scooped her up, a hint of desire in his eyes. He whispered, "We should get some rest, too, huh?"
