Chapter 166 James Is Jealous (1)
So, Jessica ended up with Jack!
When Pearl saw Jessica with Jack at the ball, she glared and hissed, "Did you do this on purpose? You signed up secretly and made me miss the registration. You are truly repugnant."
Jessica blinked, genuinely surprised. Then she saw Lily winking at her from across the room and realized Lily must have signed her up.
Jack, looking sharp in a white tailcoat, approached Jessica directly. With a smile, he extended his hand and asked, "Miss Jessica Evans, may I have this dance?"
Pearl, furious at being ignored, sneered and tried to undermine Jack, "You're such a fake! Have you forgotten what you did to me? You'll treat her the same way once you get her!"
Jack's expression tightened for a moment, but he kept his composure. Ignoring Pearl, silently urging Jessica to trust him and take his hand.
Jessica hesitated, conflicted. But when she saw Rose smiling beside James, she felt a surge of determination. She wanted to reclaim her pride and show she wasn't a lovesick woman abandoned by James. Taking a deep breath, she placed her hand in Jack's.
Jack's relief was evident as he smiled warmly. He led Jessica onto the dance floor, their steps perfectly in sync with the music.
Lily entered with—Michael? That refined scoundrel was paired with Lily? He looked very handsome and carried himself with a noble demeanor. Lily, usually so confident, seemed to lose her edge around him.
Jessica snapped back to reality when Jack's hand tightened around her waist. Her graceful steps faltered, and she looked up at Jack, confused. "What's wrong?" she asked absentmindedly.
"Nothing," Jack replied with a faint smile. "Jessica, at least give me this dance, okay? Don't think about anyone else."
His words carried a weight that made Jessica stumble again, sending a shiver down her spine.
"Jack, I didn't sign up for this dance myself," Jessica explained softly as they danced.
Jack tugged at the corner of his mouth and replied, "I know. But with so many people signing up and combinations, we ended up together. That's fate, isn't it?"
He glanced at the diamond bracelet on Jessica’s wrist and added, "This bracelet really suits you."
Jessica felt a flutter in her chest. Jack was one of the few who remembered her birthday. Determined to honor his kindness and the unexpected turn of events, she decided to give her all to this dance.
Her steps became more graceful and skilled, reminiscent of the elegance she had when John used to take her to various balls. Their beauty attracted many onlookers. The men’s gazes were appreciative, while most of the women were envious.
James had already seen Jessica's name on the big screen. His eyes gloomily fixed on the center of the dance floor, where the graceful Jessica was dancing. But now, she was in another man's arms, looking stunning in her sexy black strapless dress.
