Chapter 216 A Boyish Fantasy Smile
The next morning, Jessica slipped out of bed, her back pleasantly sore. Memories of the previous night with James made her blush and smile. She felt a mix of shyness and bliss, recalling how tender yet passionate he had been.
James, already up and grinning, noticed her wobbly walk. "Feeling sore? Maybe skip school for a couple of days," he teased warmly.
Jessica pouted, "No way, I haven't been to the study room in ages. If this keeps up, I won't pass the MCAT."
She added with a smile, "Besides, I promised Kylie we'd stay at Ocean City University!"
James, always her biggest supporter, admired her determination. "Then go for it. If you need help, just let me know."
Jessica's smile made his heart skip a beat.
"Okay," she said warmly. She gave him a quick kiss before darting off to the bathroom, ready to start her day.
After breakfast, James drove her to school.
"Sit in the back," he said gently.
Jessica pouted, "Isn't the wife supposed to sit up front, closest to you?"
He chuckled, finding her adorable. "Silly girl, traffic's probably heavy. You can sleep in the back, and I'll wake you when we get there."
Jessica felt cherished. This was what it meant to be truly cherished and nurtured. After the previous night's activities, she was exhausted. She settled into the back seat, letting the car's hum lull her to sleep.
"Time to wake up." James pinched her cheek. "If you don't get up now, you'll be late."
Jessica realized they were at the school gate.
James smiled, "Did you sleep well?"
Jessica nodded vigorously. "Very well!"
As she was about to get out, James grabbed her hand. "Aren't you forgetting something?" He leaned in.
Jessica quickly kissed him before darting out of the car, her heart pounding.
James watched her with a wide smile, feeling inexplicably happy.
At the Kelly Corporation, James was unusually agreeable. Even when there were issues with documents, he pointed them out calmly, a stark contrast to his typical sharpness. His colleagues exchanged glances, recognizing a distinct transformation in James's behavior.
During a meeting, a Facebook notification chimed on James's phone. He frowned but gestured for the presentation to continue. Discreetly, he checked his phone.
Sean was stunned. James never looked at his phone during meetings.
But there it was—a boyish grin spread across James's face as he typed a reply.
Jessica: [Are you at the office?]
James: [In a meeting.]
Jessica: [I miss you a bit, honey.]
James felt a warm itch in his heart.
James: [Be good, focus on your classes, and I'll pick you up tonight.]
After sending the message, he realized everyone was staring at him. Their expressions reflecting surprise as if they had witnessed something astonishing!
His face turned serious, the boyish smile gone. "Is there something on my face? Why are you all staring at me?"
