James's eyes were sharp as he gritted his teeth and said, "I know, Professor Howard, you've spent a lot of time abroad and are quite open-minded about relationships between men and women, with no taboos. But as a male teacher, taking a female student to work the night shift, the two of you alone in one room—do you think that's appropriate?"
Nathan didn't back down either and retorted, "I have my own integrity and professional ethics. If you think I have any improper intentions towards your wife, you can go ahead and report me to the hospital. I believe if you had asked your wife about that night or listened to her explanation, you wouldn't be questioning me like this!"
With that, Nathan stood up and left.
James clenched the coffee cup in his hand, his gaze extremely dark.
Soon, Nathan returned to the hospital.
Jessica, unaware of what had happened, smiled at him and said, "Professor Howard, you're back?"
Nathan looked at her with a complex expression and nodded, "Yes, come with me to the office."

Jessica followed him into the office.

"Professor Howard, did you need to see me for something?"
Jessica asked cautiously, "Professor Howard, did I do something wrong again? Or did I make a mistake somewhere? Please feel free to criticize me, and I'll definitely correct it."
"It's not that."
Nathan turned around and stared at her for a long time before saying, "I know, as a teacher, I should only guide my students academically and professionally and not interfere too much in their personal affairs. But today, your husband came to see me. He might have some misunderstandings about our relationship. I don't know what you told him."
Jessica suddenly felt very nervous and asked incredulously, "You mean James came to see you?"
She never expected that James would go directly to Nathan.
She apologized, "Professor Howard, you misunderstood. I didn't tell him anything, and I didn't know he would come to see you. If it caused you any trouble, I apologize on his behalf."
Seeing her reaction, Nathan realized she had tacitly admitted that James was her husband.
A faint pain surged in his heart, but Nathan deliberately ignored the discomfort and said calmly, "I'll keep your marriage a secret. As for your husband, he doesn't want you to work night shifts with me anymore. But I'll leave the choice to you. After all, you are an independent individual and should have your own thoughts."
Jessica was very grateful for Nathan's respect. She looked at him and said, "Professor Howard, can I really continue learning from you? I feel like I can learn a lot from you, and I've never thought about changing teachers."
Nathan couldn't tell if he was relieved or pained.
Relieved because Jessica could distinguish right from wrong and wouldn't be influenced by a man. She was pained because, in her words, she only saw him as a teacher.
Seeing his complex expression, Jessica asked, "Professor Howard, are you angry? If you think I'm causing you trouble, I can change teachers and won't bother you anymore."
In fact, Nathan knew that at this moment, asking Jessica to change teachers was the right thing to do.
That way, he wouldn't have to face any negative repercussions, and he could also force himself to draw a clear line with Jessica.
Whether he admitted it or not, as a teacher, his heart had already crossed the line.
