Chapter 18 Going Home with Him
Soon, James's car arrived at the entrance of the mall to pick her up. After all, Gerald had raised him all by himself, and he would always respect Gerald. Because of this, he personally came to pick up Jessica to avoid upsetting Gerald.
Seeing her get into the car, James coldly said, "Jessica, from now on, don't call me that."
"Got it."
Jessica obediently agreed. She didn't mention that Rose was with her because the man's favoritism would cloud his judgment. He might even say she bullied Rose!
Seeing that she didn't talk back, James didn't dwell on it and drove towards the Kelly Family's old mansion. The Kelly Family's old mansion was located in a scenic area in the southern part of Ocean City. At one point, a foreign tycoon offered $280 million for the mansion, but Gerald didn't agree.
The fifteenth of every month was the Kelly Family's family dinner. Jessica stayed quietly beside James, eating without saying a word. However, she could clearly hear their conversation.
At this moment, Gerald turned his attention to her, his stern face softening. "Jessica, you seem to have lost weight again. Eat more."
Gerald smiled warmly, "James treats you well, right? He hasn't bullied you, has he?"
Jessica glanced at James and forced a smile, "Don't worry, Grandpa. James treats me very well."
As soon as she finished speaking, Linda Walker's light laughter came through, "Really? I heard that James doesn't come home much, and even when he does, he sleeps in the study!"
"What? Sleeping in the study?" Gerald suddenly changed his tone when he saw the silent James beside him. "You've been married for so long. Isn't it time to have a child? It's better to have children sooner rather than later."
Jessica choked and took a while to recover. Why was Gerald suddenly urging them to have a baby? Besides, she and James had never been intimate since their marriage. How could they have a child?
"Grandpa, there's no rush. Let's just go with the flow," Jessica said awkwardly, forcing a couple of laughs.
At that moment, a servant brought two bowls of dark, medicinal soup and placed them in front of them. James frowned at the pungent smell and asked, "Grandpa, what is this?"
"You've been married for two years and still haven't given me a great-grandchild?" Gerald squinted his eyes with a smile. "This medicine is prescribed by a famous medical family in Ocean City. It's very nourishing. Start with ten bowls, and keep drinking until Jessica gets pregnant."
"What?" James looked at the bowl of medicine, speechless, and glanced helplessly at Jessica. Her face also showed a troubled expression, looking somewhat distressed.
She knew Gerald was standing up for her, she didn't want to disappoint him. Her internal struggle became more apparent. Having a child or not, it depended on whether James was willing.
Gerald urged them, clearly thinking they didn't want to have a child, "Drink it while it's hot; it's most effective that way!"
James found it hard to swallow, showing a pained expression. Jessica thought for a moment and mustered the courage to say to Gerald, "Grandpa, we're so young and healthy. Isn't it too early to drink this medicine?"
"Keep drinking it until Jessica gets pregnant. Before that, don't worry about the company," Gerald insisted.
