Chapter 582 Experts from Abroad (2)
"Mom, I gotta tell you something."
Jessica's face turned serious, and her eyes welled up with tears. "Tomorrow, I have to go back to work in the States. For the next year, I'll be traveling a lot, and I might only be home every three or four days. You need to listen to the nanny and make sure we video call every day, okay?"
Cordelia's face fell. "What? Why do you have to work in the States? Aren't they paying you here? Can I go with you?"
Colt quickly jumped in, "I wanna go too!"
Jessica felt even more guilty towards Colt and Cordelia. Over the years, she had missed so much because of her research and work.
Holding back her sadness, Jessica patted Colt's head and said, "I wish I could take you with me, but you have to go to preschool, and I'll be too busy with work to take care of you. Promise me you'll look after Cordelia. I promise I'll bring back lots of yummy treats and fun toys every time I come home, okay?"
Cordelia, being a foodie, immediately perked up at Jessica's promise. "Okay, okay! I want yummy treats! And more dolls! And surprise boxes too!"
Colt looked at the innocent Cordelia and pouted. "I just want a dad! It would be great if we had a dad!"
Jessica felt extremely awkward at Colt's words and pretended not to hear him.
Unexpectedly, Colt continued, "I think Uncle Nathan would be great! Mom, why don't you let Uncle Nathan be our dad? All the other kids have dads, and it's embarrassing when only you come to the parent-child events."
Jessica couldn't avoid it any longer and forced a smile. "Alright, I'll think about it, okay? But you have to promise me you'll take care of Cordelia and make sure she practices the piano."
After comforting Colt and Cordelia, Jessica finally embarked on her journey back to the States.
The night she was packing, Nathan came over to help.
Jessica suddenly asked, "Nathan, do you not want me to go back to the States?"
Nathan paused, hiding the unease in his eyes. "Why would you say that? Why would I have any reason to stop you?"
Jessica chuckled. "Because your team will be missing a valuable assistant, and you're afraid no one will do the work!"
Nathan realized she was joking and let out a small sigh of relief, looking at her with a mix of helplessness and affection. "When did you become so cheeky?"
"What was I like before?"
Jessica blinked her eyes playfully, looking especially radiant at that moment.
Nathan's gaze grew distant, and he avoided her question, saying softly, "I like you just the way you are now. I hope you can always live carefree, doing what you love."
With that, he stepped closer and gently pulled her into his arms, whispering, "Jessica, I'll always be your support."
The next day, Nathan personally drove her to the airport.
Knowing she was heading back to Ocean City, he couldn't help but feel anxious and worried.
Even now, he held her hand, reluctant to let go.
Jessica smiled helplessly. "If you don't let go, I'll miss my flight."
Nathan awkwardly released her hand but still couldn't help but remind her, "Take care of yourself when you get back. If anything happens, call me, okay?"
Then he added, "Even if nothing happens, you can still call me."
