John's emotions suddenly flared up. "Even you don't believe me? I was set up! I think that driver was bought off by that woman ages ago. From the moment he borrowed money from me, I was caught in their trap."
Jessica perked up. She knew John wouldn't lie to her.
Jessica said with confusion, "Dad, are you sure? Watson checked the driver's bank records, and there were no big transfers, except for the $10,000 you gave him. How did Rose bribe him?"
If that charge had stuck, it would've been attempted murder, and the driver would've gone to jail. He was so young; it would've ruined his life! Would he really be that dumb?
John shook his head. "I can't figure out how she got my driver to obey her. I hate that woman for wrecking your family, but I'd never do something so awful!"
Jessica felt a shiver run down her spine, cold sweat breaking out. Could Rose have sacrificed her own legs and child just to frame John and force her to divorce James? If that was true, how terrifying was she?
Jessica thought for a while and then said calmly, "Dad, I believe you. I never thought you'd do something like that. But I've already divorced James, and I need to move on. Rose got what she wanted. I don't want to get tangled up with her anymore. She's like a venomous snake; if we keep holding on, she'll bite us back."
John said painfully, "I know how hard it's been for you. You divorced James to save me, and I feel so guilty! I can see you love him deeply. If you don't want to leave him, we can find a way to get him back! That vicious woman definitely won't have a happy ending."
"No, Dad. Don't worry about me," Jessica said while peeling an apple. "I've moved on. If love has to be a struggle, it's too exhausting. I don't want to wear myself out like that."
At Kelly Corporation, James had been in a bad mood lately, casting a noticeable cloud of tension over the company.
Sean stood in front of his desk, trembling. "Mr. Kelly, I saw Miss Evans today. She refused all your gifts and moved out of the villa. She's back with the Evans family."
"She didn't take anything?" James, filled with regret and guilt, stood up, wanting to find her and make her accept the gifts. But as he was about to take a step, he stopped and sat back down.
Since they decided to part ways, he shouldn't disturb her life. James told Sean to leave and leaned back in his chair, exhausted, unable to stop thinking about Jessica.
Not long after, the secretary knocked on the door and said, "Mr. Kelly, Mrs. Kelly is here."
