Chapter 273 Leave In Such a Hurry

Lily was torn, feeling like she was about to cross a line she couldn't uncross. Should she peek at the file?

She knew snooping on a client's stuff was a big no-no, especially Michael's. But man, that curiosity was eating her alive. She had to know more. What if it was about the Evans Family?

With her heart thumping like crazy, Lily cracked open the file and skimmed through it. Her eyes went wide. The Evans Family was in way deeper trouble than she ever thought.

She couldn't stick around. She had to bounce. Like, now.

Lily bolted out of the office, her mind racing a mile a minute. Just then, the assistant spotted her and called out, "Miss Stewart, Mr. Watson will be back soon. Aren't you gonna wait for him?"

"I've got something urgent. We'll have to reschedule," Lily responded without breaking her stride. She made a beeline for the law firm's entrance.

Just as she reached the door, she smacked right into Michael. The collision threw her off balance, her high heel twisting awkwardly. She was about to hit the floor when a strong hand grabbed her waist.

"Ah!" she gasped, looking up into Michael's cool, composed face.

"You..." She stared at him, stunned. After waiting so long without seeing him, and just as she decided to leave, she ran smack into him.

Lily instinctively held her breath, staring at him without blinking.

Michael's eyes, behind his gold-rimmed glasses, showed a hint of depth as he looked at her flushed cheeks. Today, Lily was wearing a light green professional outfit, fresh yet capable. Her slightly raised eyebrows made her look confident and charming.

She abruptly came to her senses, stepped back from his arms, and, blushing, said, "Sorry, Mr. Watson."

"Lily," he said, his voice low and steady. "I should apologize for making you wait. A complex case kept me occupied this morning."

Michael took a step closer, his voice dropping an octave. "Let's finish the interview now. I owe you lunch afterward."

Lily shook her head, her urgency apparent. "Sorry, Mr. Watson, I really need to go. We can reschedule."

Without giving him a chance to respond, she dashed toward the parking garage. Michael watched her retreating figure suspiciously before returning to his office.

He asked his assistant, "Why did Miss Stewart leave in such a hurry?"

The assistant shrugged, clearly puzzled. "I'm not sure. Miss Stewart was patient at first, committed to waiting. Then, all of a sudden, she rushed out, claiming she had an urgent errand."

Michael entered his office, his eyes narrowing as he noticed the file on his desk. Realization struck him. Lily must have seen something related to John and was on her way to find Jessica. He immediately picked up the phone and called James to give him a heads-up.

Meanwhile, Lily was dialing Jessica's number as she sped toward the hospital where Jessica interned. She could barely contain her concern and frustration.

"Hi, Jessica. Which hospital are you at today?" Lily blurted out, sounding more anxious than intended.

Jessica answered cheerily, "Lily! Aren't you supposed to be at work? How come you have time to visit me?"

Although Lily knew Jessica had no choice, she still scolded her harshly and hadn't contacted her for a long time.

Now, she was personally looking for her, and Jessica couldn't be happier.

Lily paused, hearing Jessica's tone. She mused, 'Does she not know something wrong has happened to her family?'

She took a deep breath and said in a steady tone, "I'll be there soon. Let's talk when I get there."
