Chapter 235 Jessica Knows Rose's Pregnancy

Jessica felt a flutter in her stomach when he called her "honey" for the first time.

James's gentle touch and soothing voice as he tucked her in made her feel overwhelmed. "I'm going to take a shower. Today was really exhausting," he said.

Jessica couldn't hold back her curiosity any longer. "Is the company really that busy? Were you at the office all day?" she asked indirectly.

James hesitated briefly before nodding. "Yeah, there's just too much going on."

Jessica's eyes darkened, her heart weighed down by a massive black curtain, suffocating her with each breath.

She knew he was lying. He had been at the hospital with someone else and hadn't mentioned it.

James, unaware of her change in mood, headed to the bathroom.

Jessica took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, but her chest still felt tight. She wanted to ask him directly who he had gone to the hospital with and why, but fear of his answer held her back.

In the end, she swallowed her questions, letting them sit heavy and unanswered in her stomach.

The next day, Jessica was distracted during her internship.

Ever since Cynthia found out Jessica had a handsome brother, she'd stopped giving her a hard time and instead asked about him constantly.

Today, seeing Jessica so distracted, Cynthia skipped the usual questions. "Jessica, did you not rest well last night? How about I give you a day off to go home and rest? Oh, and give me your brother's number. I'll call him to come pick you up."

Jessica knew Cynthia just wanted James's number. Ignoring the motive, she smiled politely. "Thank you for your concern, Ms. Wells. I'm fine. You're on clinic duty today, right? I'll go with you."

Cynthia raised an eyebrow, thinking Jessica was a bit dense. She could have easily secured a day off by sharing James's number, but Jessica wasn't taking the bait. With a resigned sigh, Cynthia led the way to the clinic.

The Ocean City University Hospital was busy. Cynthia didn't get a break all morning, and Jessica was occupied with medical records.

Then, a familiar name caught her eye.

"Rose!"

If Rose hadn't been standing there smiling, Jessica would have thought it was just someone with the same name.

Why would someone as young as Rose be seeing a cardiologist?

Jessica looked at Rose with puzzled eyes. Rose smiled meaningfully back at her.

Jessica suddenly remembered John's warning from last night. So, Rose wasn't feeling well, and James had accompanied her to the hospital yesterday? And he had kept it from her?

While Jessica was lost in thought, Rose sat down across from them.

Cynthia asked, "What's bothering you?"

Rose clutched her chest and said softly, "Doctor, I've been feeling a tightness in my chest lately. I don't know if it's because I'm pregnant."

Jessica looked up in shock, and the pen in her hand fell to the ground.

Her mind raced, pondering, 'Is Rose pregnant? Is it James's?'

After listening to Rose's heart, Cynthia asked some medical history questions and said, "You're ten weeks pregnant. The chest tightness is likely due to pregnancy symptoms. If you're worried, I can order an echocardiogram and an EKG for you."

Rose glanced at Jessica's pale face, then said to Cynthia, "I think I'd better get a thorough check-up. That way, both the baby and I can be at ease."
